  • Patent number: 4635135
Abstract: A recording system has one signal FM recorded and another signal baseband recorded. The multiple of the FM carrier is used as bias for the baseband recording to eliminate beats.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 1, 1981
Date of Patent: January 6, 1987
    Assignee: RCA Corporation
    Inventor: Henry R. Warren
  • Patent number: 4593330
Abstract: A tape threading arrangement for a helical scan VTR with a 360 degree wrap angle has two pairs of guides. The first pair wraps the tape around a drum for 360 degrees. The second pair keeps the tape from contacting the tape on the drum and is actuated by a pair of variable length springs coupled between said guide pairs. This allows a compact structure.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 26, 1983
Date of Patent: June 3, 1986
    Assignee: RCA Corporation

  • Patent number: 4583130
Abstract: A magnetic tape has luminance and chroma components recorded in different tracks with the horizontal sync signal recorded between them. On playback, if there is mistracking, the sync signal will be present in either the luminance or the chroma signal. This is detected and used to control the deflection of a bimorph to correct the mistracking.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 15, 1983
Date of Patent: April 15, 1986
    Assignee: RCA Corporation
    Inventor: Henry R. Warren
  • Patent number: 4504869
Abstract: When in the high or low speed editing or "moviola" mode, a VTR switches the inputs of Y and C demodulators between the Y and C heads or switches the demodulator outputs as the heads cross tracks. Thus, the Y and C demodulators always receive or provide at least some Y and C signals respectively, thereby making color display during the moviola mode possible.

Date of Patent: March 12, 1985
    Assignee: RCA Corporation

  • Patent number: 4485395
Abstract: A tape has Y and C components of a television signal recorded in different tracks. This can lead to mistiming and hence misregistration errors. To correct this a phase error signal is generated from the horizontal sync signals in each track and used to control variable delay lines for the Y and C to correct the misregistration. Separate delay lines for the I and Q components can also be used.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 21, 1982
Date of Patent: November 27, 1984
    Assignee: RCA Corporation
    Inventor: Henry R. Warren
  • Patent number: 4441090
Abstract: The effects of crosstalk of an FM carrier from a first signal channel into a second signal channel are reduced by a variable-frequency notch filter coupled in the second channel. The frequency of the notch in the transmission characteristic of the filter is controlled to track the frequency of the FM carrier. Signals in the second channel at the frequency of the FM carrier are attenuated, and therefore the crosstalk signal is attenuated and its effects reduced.

Date of Patent: April 3, 1984
    Assignee: RCA Corporation

  • Patent number: 4317140
Abstract: In a segmented helical-scan recorder-playback arrangement, alternate scans of the heads across the tape transduce information relating to the top and bottom of the raster. Noise bands and raster distortion occurring during the crossover of a scanning head from track to track during playback in a stop or variable-speed mode is prevented by playback heads having gaps wider than the width of the recorded track and by azimuth separation between adjacent tracks.

  • Patent number: 4296430
Abstract: A multichannel recorder, such as for color video, reduces the width of recording heads that record low frequencies, and interchanges the order of one such head with a high frequency head. This both reduces crosstalk and keeps interchannel time displacement low.

  • Patent number: 4263625
Abstract: In a helical-scan tape recorder, headwheel servo loop locking is verified by a stationary head located downstream from the headwheel at a transverse position relative to the tape path at which the vertical synchronizing or blanking signals occur in normal operation.
