Patent number: 7352896Abstract: A method, a system, a device, a storage means, and a computer software product for sharpening colours in an image, in which a first colour component is interpolated and sharpened in such a way that the effect of the colour component is computed in different directions, the highest and/or lowest value of the computed values is selected to represent the greatest and/or smallest change, after which the colour component is sharpened, if the ratio between the highest and lowest values falls within predetermined limit values. The second colour component is sharpened on the basis of the sharpening of said first colour component. After the sharpening, the second colour component is interpolated, wherein the result is a sharpened and interpolated three-colour image.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2003Date of Patent: April 1, 2008Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Henry Rantanen, Ossi Kalevo

Patent number: 7236191Abstract: The invention relates to a method for processing an image, which comprises at least two color components. The pixel having a color information of the first component locates at least partly in a different location than a pixel having a color information of the second component, wherein an interpolation is performed between the first component and the pixel having the information of the second component. In the interpolation the best interpolation direction is selected and averaging the neighboring pixels having the color information of the first component and calculating a second order gradient from the second component in the selected interpolation direction. The average value is then added to a portion of the second order gradient for the interpolation of the first component. The invention also relates to a system performing said method, to an apparatus, as well as to a computer program.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2003Date of Patent: June 26, 2007Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Ossi Kalevo, Henry Rantanen

Patent number: 7129983Abstract: The invention is based on a method for controlling a flash unit in connection with a digital image sensor without a mechanical shutter, wherein the exposure of the image sensor is performed in sub-areas, such as pixel rows or columns, or in another order, by using a rolling electronic shutter or the like. Thus, the exposure of said sub-areas of the image sensor takes place at least partly at different times. According to the invention, during the time of exposure of one image, i.e. substantially all the sub-areas of the image sensor, several discrete, successive flashes of the flash unit are used to achieve even exposure of the image area, which the flashes are timed in such a way that each single flash is triggered at a point of time which is common to the integration or exposure time of as many successive sub-areas of the image sensor as possible.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2002Date of Patent: October 31, 2006Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Henry Rantanen, Jukka Yrjänäinen

Patent number: 6904169Abstract: A method and system for improving a color image separable into three color components. A noise-filtering unit is used to filter the color components for providing noise-filtered color components. The edge information extracted from one color component is used to adjust the noise-filtered color component of a different color. The algorithm for noise filtering of color components can be based on linear spatial filters, non-linear filters or the combinations thereof. The algorithm for edge detection can be based on directional or non-directional spatial filters.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2001Date of Patent: June 7, 2005Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Ossi Kalevo, Henry Rantanen
