  • Patent number: 4568701
Abstract: In a process of preparing a polyisocyanurate foam, which process comprises: reacting a plasticized polyisocyanate in the presence of a trimerization catalyst and an expanding amount of an inert blowing agent to provide a polyisocyanurate foam, the improvement which comprises: carrying out the reaction in the presence of from about four to twenty percent by weight of a surface-active organic silicone compound characterized by an active hydrogen functionality, and having a hydroxyl number of greater than about 30 and an equivalent weight of less than about 2000 and in the presence of a nonvolatile plasticizer to provide a polyisocyanurate foam of improved friability and good flame, heat and stability properties.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 17, 1976
Date of Patent: February 4, 1986
Assignee: General Latex and Chemical Corporation
    Inventor: Henry S. Hopkins, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4071482
Abstract: Highly flame-resistant polyurethane foams of improved friability and reduced brittleness without a corresponding substantial increase in flame-spread or smoke-generation characteristics are prepared by incorporating into a foamable polyurethane composition an amount of a liquid organic carbonate, such as ethylene or propylene carbonate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 27, 1976
Date of Patent: January 31, 1978
Assignee: General Latex and Chemical Corporation
Inventors: Henry S. Hopkins, Jr., Donald L. Vargo
  • Patent number: 4036792
Abstract: Polyisocyanurate foamable compositions, polyisocyanurate foams and a process of preparing such foams wherein the foam consists essentially of recurring isocyanurate linkages, the foam exhibiting good friability properties and prepared by reacting a polyisocyanate in the presence of a cocatalyst system comprising a trimer catalytic amount of an alkylaminoalkyl phenol, and an amount of from about 1 to 15% by weight of the dialkylaminoalkyl phenol of a triethylene diamine or homolog thereof.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 16, 1975
Date of Patent: July 19, 1977
Assignee: General Latex and Chemical Corporation
    Inventor: Henry S. Hopkins, Jr.
