  • Patent number: 5606414
Abstract: Two Sagnac interferometers are mounted on board a ship with their axes in a horizontal plane. The axis of one interferometer is aligned in a fore-aft direction whereas the axis of the other interferometer is aligned athwartship. The output signals of the two interferometers are combined mathematically so as to cancel the effects of the ship's latitude and thus provide an output signal independent of this parameter.

  • Patent number: 4968136
Abstract: A laser gyroscope is formed as a sealed, unitary assembly of mirrors optically contacted to a monolithic gyro block without any means, such as Brewster windows, for isolating the laser plasma from any of the mirrors. The mirrors are fabricated with hard multilayer dielectric films which can withstand plasma exposure. A magnetic mirror utilizing the transverse Kerr effect to separate the frequencies of counter-propagating beams, and to avoid lock-in, includes a Ni-Fe alloy layer over which is directly deposited a thin iron or iron alloy layer to form a rotationally switchable Kerr effect combination. The magnetic field for switching is generated by an electric current developed in two pairs of orthogonally disposed wires embedded in the substrate immediately below the iron and Ni-Fe alloy layers.

  • Patent number: 4352562
Abstract: A ring resonator wherein the frequency of a laser beam is altered by passing the beam through an acoustooptic modulator which is controlled by a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) in a stabilization feedback loop. The acoustooptic modulator is capable of modulating the laser at modulation frequencies well up into the radio frequency range as is required for cavity stabilization.

  • Patent number: 4127764
Abstract: A high efficiency fuser and pressure roll system for fixing xerographic toner particles to a carrier medium such as paper has an axially located cartridge heater element integrally coupled to a plurality of low thermal mass, high thermal conductivity fins for efficiently transferring heat by direct thermal conduction to and supporting the roll surface. The cartridge heater and fuser roll structure are thermally isolated from the shaft mechanism supporting the fuser roll itself. Quick and efficient heating of the roll surface is afforded, radiative transfer of heat being avoided. Further, there is afforded diminished heat loss through undesired heat conduction into the shaft and associated parts of the copier.

  • Patent number: 4065730
Abstract: Light is efficiently coupled from a laser into a dielectric optical wave guide without the use of additional optical components. An oscillating mode using total internal reflection within the laser element is employed, one face of the element intimately contacting a wave guide light output coupling wall.
