    Abstract: Methods for transforming monocot plants are provided. The method comprise the steps of excising an embryo from a seed of the plant, allowing the embryo to develop to a stage highly receptive for transformation, transforming the developing embryo, and developing the embryo into a plantlet, wherein the transformation occurs without passing through a callus phase.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method of use for controlling the matric potential of a porous sample in a liquid are described. The apparatus includes a cylindrical porous cup for holding the sample, the cup having an air entry value greater than the matric potential to be imparted to the sample, an outer vesicle adapted to define a chamber between the cup and vesicle for holding the liquid, and means for adjusting the pressure of the liquid in the chamber.

Four fluorescens Pseudomonas strains are disclosed which are effective in suppressing take-all in wheat.
