  • Patent number: 4830542
Abstract: A leveling wafer for a subsea hydrocarbon production platform having two wedge portions which can be rotated in relation to each other to vary the degree of taper. The wafer supports a machinery supporting template having a wedge shaped key projecting downwardly therefrom to engage an opening in the top of the wafer to ensure rotational (azimuth) orientation of the template.

Date of Patent: May 16, 1989
    Assignee: Mobil Oil Corporation
Inventors: Robert L. Bunnell, Henry W. Miller, Joseph R. Padilla
  • Patent number: 4580926
Abstract: A tool for undersea oil recovery operations having a framework to carry instruments to the sea bottom to determine the angle of inclination of a ring girder secured to a monopile driven into the sea bottom. The same tool, with minor modifications, is used to transport a wedge-shaped leveling wafer to the bottom after the wafer has been fabricated to correct the previously determined inclinations.

  • Patent number: 4518042
Abstract: A wellhead connector assembly for use on undersea template platform where a plurality of wellheads are connected to a center work enclosure hull having a plurality of penetration connectors projecting from its sidewall. The present assembly has a connector for fitting on the wellhead, and a laterally movable connector for coupling with a penetration connector. A vertical actuation rod pivots a bell crank linked to the connector to cause lateral movement thereof. A loop of pipe connects the wellhead to the laterally movable connector and biases it to a neutral position.

  • Patent number: 4503349
Abstract: Homopolar generators are provided with a helical field coil disposed around a rotor, wound coaxially with the rotor, and connected in series with sliding electrical contacts on the rotor. The coil of a single rotor machine includes two sections wound so as to increase magnetic flux through the rotor when current is allowed to flow through an external circuit and through the coil and brushes. For a dual counterrotating rotor machine, a single section coil is used to perform the same function.

  • Patent number: 4386656
Abstract: A tubing hanger landing and orienting tool for a subsea wellhead having a mandrel connected to the tubing hanger, a sleeve surrounding a portion of the mandrel and being axially movable thereon, a liquid filled chamber between the sleeve and the mandrel, a shoulder on the sleeve adapted to seat in the wellhead, relative movement of the sleeve and the mandrel after seating of the sleeve in the wellhead causing a change of volume in the chamber, means controlling the volume in the chamber to cushion the landing of the tubing hanger, pressure responsive extendible lug in the mandrel which when extended coacts with a cam and slot surface within an orienting spool to orient the tubing hanger in the wellhead, and means for applying pressure from said chamber to extend said lug after seating of the sleeve in the wellhead.

  • Patent number: 4353420
Abstract: A well apparatus and method of running same, which apparatus includes a hanger body with a downwardly facing external shoulder adapted to land on a wellhead housing landing seat and having an external flow passage therearound for flow of fluids past the landing shoulder and around the exterior of the hanger body; a packer assembly adapted to seal against the interior of the wellhead housing and against a seal surface on the hanger body with an actuating sleeve surrounding a mandrel, which sleeve is adapted to move to set the packing ring and includes means holding the sleeve against inadvertent setting and means holding the packer assembly in set position, together with a running tool which is releasably engaged to the hanger body and to the packer assembly so that on seating of the hanger body, the running tool may be released from the hanger body to move the packer assembly into sealing engagement with the hanger body and with the interior of the wellhead housing.
