  • Patent number: 6983169
Abstract: Disclosed is a system, method and computer readable medium for configuring settings of a wireless device. The system on a wireless device includes means for detecting a user action indicating a particular mode for the wireless device. The means for detecting includes any one of means for detecting the proximity of a holster for holding the wireless device and means for detecting an on-call status and/or an off-call status of the wireless device. The system on a wireless device further includes a processor in the wireless device for configuring settings of the wireless device in response to the user action. The configuring of settings is performed any one of manually and automatically. The settings of the wireless device include at least one of a ring setting, a battery setting, an input pad setting and a device use setting.

  • Patent number: 6556817
Abstract: A wireless communication system employs a method and apparatus for selectively communicating in the wireless communication system based on varying time incremental costs of communication. A communication unit (116) receives a transmission (118) from the system infrastructure of the wireless system, wherein the transmission indicates a time incremental cost of future communications as temporarily established by the system infrastructure. Responsive to receiving the transmission, the communication unit determines whether the received time incremental cost is acceptable to a user of the communication unit (e.g., whether the received cost is less than or equal to a previously stored desired cost or whether, after displaying the received cost to the user, the user has indicated his or her acceptance of the cost).

  • Patent number: 5424725
Abstract: An electronic device (100) includes a housing (222), a circuit supporting substrate (604, 605) within the housing (222) and mechanically coupled thereto, and electronic circuitry (606, 607, 608, 609, 610) mechanically coupled to the circuit supporting substrate (604, 605). A battery retainer (601) is located within the housing (222), and is mechanically coupled to the housing (222) for positioning and securing a battery (603) and preventing the transmission of mechanical shock between the battery (603) and nearby mechanical elements (240, 242, 604, 605, 606, 607, 608, 609, 610). The battery retainer includes at least one integrally molded user actuated switch (602) for controlling an operating function of the electronic device (100).

  • Patent number: 5251104
Abstract: An enclosure latch system includes an insertable member (106) connected to a first enclosure section (102), and a mating recess (108) within a second enclosure section (104) for engaging with the insertable member (106), thereby latching the first and second enclosure sections (102, 104) together. The insertable member (106) includes an extender member (202) connected at an attachment end to the first enclosure section (102) for extending the insertable member (106) into the second enclosure section (104), and a latch tooth (204) protruding from the extender member (202) near a free end. The latch tooth (204) has a mating surface (206, 208) that tapers from flat on a first side to cylindrical on a second side opposite the first side for latching the first and second enclosure sections (102, 104) when the latch tooth (204) is in the mating recess (108).
