Patent number: 8462613Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of channel estimation comprising two major steps. The first step is the least-squared and minimum mean-square error (MMSE) estimations on the pilot resource elements to generate the channel response estimates at the predefined pilot locations. The second step of the channel estimation, which utilizes the results from the first step to compute the channel response estimates for the remaining resource elements, comprises the following three operations: (i) averaging of each pair of adjacent pilot resource elements in the frequency direction to obtain the channel response estimate of the resource element in the middle of those two pilot resource elements; (ii) MMSE interpolation in the time domain for all the sub-carriers containing pilot signals; and (iii) linear interpolation in the frequency direction for all the sub-carriers not containing any pilot signals.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2010Date of Patent: June 11, 2013Assignee: Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company LimitedInventors: Kai Zhang, Henry Ye, Cheng Wang

Publication number: 20100329398Abstract: To address the need for new interference cancellation techniques that are able to deliver adequate performance but with reduced processing requirements, various embodiments are described. In some embodiments, a receiving device demodulates and decodes (101) at least one first-group user from a multi-user input signal. This multi-user input signal includes at least one first-group user and at least one second-group user, the first-group users having a shorter transmission time interval (TTI) than the second-group users. The receiving device reconstructs (102) an interference signal for each of the first-group users that were successfully decoded and subtracts (103) each interference signal from the multi-user input signal to generate an interference-canceled signal. The receiving device then demodulates and decodes (104) at least one second-group user using this interference-canceled signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 30, 2009Publication date: December 30, 2010Inventors: Anil M. Publication number: 20070165704Abstract: In carrying out a method for auxiliary pilot cancellation in a wireless network reverse link, a base station receives signals from various wireless units over the reverse link. Some of the wireless units may transmit auxiliary pilot signals when transmitting high-speed packet data. For each active wireless unit, the base station monitors the received signals for the presence of auxiliary pilot signals. When present, the auxiliary pilot signals are regenerated, combined, and removed from the composite received signals, forming an interference-free output signal. The output signal is routed to an array of decoding units (one for each active user), for decoding data traffic. The auxiliary pilot signals may be routed to the decoding units for use in channel estimation calculations.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 19, 2006Publication date: July 19, 2007Applicant: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Yang Yang, Henry Ye

Publication number: 20070070926Abstract: In a UMTS wireless communication system, the enhanced dedicated physical control channel (E-DPCCH) that is usually always transmitted together with the enhanced dedicated physical data channel (E-DPDCH) on the uplink from a UE to a NodeB is instead only transmitted when a predetermined “start criterion” is met and is turned off when a predetermined “stop criterion” is met until a “start criterion” is later met again. The UE starts transmitting E-DPCCH whenever the corresponding E-DPDCH transport format combination is different from the previous one in the same HARQ process or some other “start criterion” is met. Multiple mechanisms can be used to decide when the UE should switch off E-DPCCH transmission after the transport format combination of E-DPDCH has changed.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2005Publication date: March 29, 2007Inventors: Rainer Bachl, Anil Rao, Mirko Schacht, Henry Ye

Publication number: 20070025345Abstract: In a UMTS wireless communication system, when the packet size on the enhanced dedicated physical data channel (E-DPDCH) on the uplink from a UE to a NodeB reaches a converged default packet size, the corresponding dedicated physical control channel (E-DPCCH) is turned off. The NodeB uses the default packet size to decode the frame received on the E-DPDCH using each possible redundancy version. Alternatively, the E-DPCCH is turned off and a new transmission flag is transmitted by the UE only when a new frame is transmitted by the UE. NodeB then uses the presence or absence of that flag in conjunction with the absence of E-DPCCH to determine which redundancy version is to be assumed in decoding the frame received on E-DPDCH.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 27, 2005Publication date: February 1, 2007Inventors: Rainer Bachl, Anil Rao, Mirko Schacht, Henry Ye

Publication number: 20050204192Abstract: In the absence of a continuous channel from the mobile terminal that incorporates a CRC in each transmitted frame from which the base station can derive a power control signal for feedback to the mobile station for maintaining the mobile station's pilot Eb/N0 level at a desired target that corresponds to a particular frame error rate, the pilot signal received by the base station from the mobile terminal itself is arranged in a frame format. Each pilot frame is compared with an a prioi known transmitted pilot signal bit pattern to determine whether it has been received in error. In response to a comparison of a received pilot frame with the expected known bit pattern of the pilot frame, an error signal is derived, which in the described embodiment is either a step-up or step-down signal that is fed back to the mobile terminal to increase or decrease its transmitted pilot Eb/N0 level, respectively.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 11, 2004Publication date: September 15, 2005Inventors: Francis Dominique, Hongwei Kong, Henry Ye, Jialin Zou
