  • Patent number: 5927381
Abstract: In order to house a latent heat storage device in a vehicle in a manner which saves as much space as possible and at a site which is secured against accident-caused deformations, the latent heat storage device is installed in the passenger compartment in the area of the front passenger's foot space.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 9, 1997
Date of Patent: July 27, 1999
    Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Henryk Bednarek, Peter Blueher, Berthold Wagner, Horst Kazenwadel
  • Patent number: 5605190
Abstract: A heat accumulator, in particular latent-heat accumulator, has an inner casing containing an accumulator core and with an outer casing enclosing the inner casing at a distance thereto so as to form an insulation space, the insulation space being baked out and evacuated. The inner casing has a pipe connection with a fill opening through which the storage medium can b introduced and which can be closed by a mechanical closing element after the storage medium has been introduced. The outer casing has a pipe connection with a fill opening through which the insulation space can be filled with insulating medium and or evacuated and which can be closed by a mechanical closing element. The pipe connection of the inner casing is disposed coaxially to the pipe connection of the outer casing. This simplifies manufacture of the heat accumulator.

  • Patent number: 4821792
Abstract: In a heating and air-conditioning installation for motor vehicles with a cooling-medium circulatory system for the engine and with a reversible refrigerant circulatory system adapted to be shifted from cooling to heating, a control device is provided which in dependence on the adjustments of the operating elements for defrosting and/or heating, automatically engages the heating operation of the refrigerant circulatory system at outside temperatures below or slightly above the freezing point and which upon reaching a sufficiently high temperature of the engine cooling-medium automatically shifts to heating operation exclusively by means of the cooling-medium circulatory system.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 27, 1987
Date of Patent: April 18, 1989
    Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke AG
    Inventor: Henryk Bednarek
  • Patent number: 4716741
Abstract: An air-conditioning installation for motor vehicles, especially for passenger motor vehicles, in which the cooling medium circulation is adapted to be switched from cooling to heating by a flow direction reversal. For purposes of heating, a by-pass line which by-passes the expansion valve effective during cooling and which contains a pressure-holding valve, terminates in a multi-channel partial area of the cooling-condenser effective as heating-evaporator so that a high heat output is produced from the compression heat and from the additional heat pump effect.
