  • Patent number: 11049341
Abstract: Digital certificates are signed by a server's private key and installed at lock controllers that restrict access to physical resources. The server's public key is distributed to lock controllers and to mobile electronic devices operated by users who are given access to the physical resources. Lock-access data is digitally signed by the server's private key and provided to mobile electronic devices to facilitate access. The lock controller validates lock-access data and grants access conditionally based on time, version, and/or identity data provided within lock-access data. The use of certificates reduces the need to rely on a security scheme specific to the network. Lock controllers can also broadcast status notifications, so that updates and log data can be securely communicated with the server using mobile electronic devices as a proxy. The system is highly scalable, as each lock controller need not track the full scope of access permissions.

  • Patent number: 9503992
Abstract: Different target transmit powers are determined for different wireless transmissions from a wireless device. The target transmit power of a wireless transmission may depend upon whether any transmitters other than the device to which the wireless transmission is to be sent are within range of the sending wireless device. The target transmit power of a wireless transmission may be based, at least in part, on a current location of a device to which one or more frames carried by the wireless transmission are addressed. The target transmit power of a wireless transmission may be based, at least in part, on confidentiality of data carried by the wireless transmission.

  • Patent number: 9143323
Abstract: A cryptographic key is used to secure a communication link between a first device and a second device. Generating the cryptographic key is accomplished by a) generating a first cryptographic key, b) generating a second cryptographic key, c) applying a hash function to packets transmitted over the communication link to create a hash result, and d) applying the hash function to the first cryptographic key, the second cryptographic key and the hash result.

  • Patent number: 8074066
Abstract: Electronic messages are sent from a sending system to an identified recipient and are encoded using information contained in a certificate. A key store is accessed by a messaging application to determine if a certificate associated with the recipient is present. If no certificate is present in the key store the messaging application accesses one or more certificate services to obtain a certificate. Where validation of the retrieved certificate is required, the messaging application invokes a certificate validation process. One or more further certificates are obtained by the messaging application where the retrieved certificate is invalid.

  • Patent number: 8060539
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for notifying at least one invitee of an initial event of changes to the initial event. The method comprises receiving the initial event comprising a plurality of initial event elements and receiving an updated event comprising a plurality of updated event elements, each updated event element corresponding to a respective initial event element. The updated event elements are compared to the initial event elements to determine which of the updated event elements are changed event elements that differ from their respective initial event elements and the at least one invitee is notified of any specific changed event elements.

  • Patent number: 7792290
Abstract: A device coupled to a smart card reader may request random data from a smart card inserted into the smart card reader, and the smart card reader may incorporate the random data into its randomness pool. A device having a source of random data may have a driver installed thereon for the smart card reader. The device may generate a random session key to encrypt traffic between the device and the smart card reader. The device may send an encrypted version of the random session key to the smart card reader. The smart card reader may decrypt the encrypted version and incorporate the random session key into its randomness pool. A smart card reader may incorporate random data received from a smart card inserted therein into its randomness pool.
