  • Patent number: 4293278
Abstract: Disclosed is a fluid-flow machine comprising at least one disc-shaped rotor provided with flow channels for a flow medium. The intake openings of the flow channels are disposed on one side of the rotor, while the respective exit openings are located at the other axial surface, the distance of all said intake openings from the axis of rotation being different from that of said exit openings. Each flow channel has a radially outer and a radially inner elbow, each elbow having two legs forming an angle of about 90.degree. with one another. One leg of one said elbow leads to the intake opening and extends in the direction of the relative velocity of the intake flow prevailing thereat, one leg of the other elbow leading to the exit opening and extending in the direction of the relative velocity of the exit flow prevailing thereat. The respective other legs of the two deflector elbows are aligned with a substantially radial connecting section connecting said deflector elbows with one another.

  • Patent number: 4278397
Abstract: A fluid flow machine has at least one disc-shaped rotor provided with flow channels for a flow medium, the intake and exit openings of said channels being located axially of said rotor. The distance of the intake openings from the axis of rotation is different from that of the exit openings. Each flow channel has a radially outer and a radially inner deflector elbow having two legs extending at an angle of about 90.degree. relative to one another, one leg of one elbow leading to an intake opening and one leg of the other elbow leading to the respective exit opening. The respective other legs of the two elbows are aligned with a substantially radial connecting section interconnecting the two deflector elbows. A higher pressure drop per stage is obtained by providing that the intake openings as well as the exit openings are located at the same axial surface of the rotor.

  • Patent number: 4029431
Abstract: A fluid-flow machine. At least one substantially disc-shaped rotor has a plurality of fluid-flow channels therethrough. Each fluid-flow channel comprises rectangular shaped inlet and outlet openings on opposite sides of the rotor disposed at different distances from the axis of rotation of said rotor, a tangential inlet channel portion including the inlet opening for receipt of a fluid-flow medium, a tangential outlet channel portion including the outlet opening for discharge of the fluid-flow medium and a circular radial connecting section between the channel portions having curved opposite ends connecting said inlet portion to said outlet portion completely around the perimeter thereof. Each channel portion has a direction, for directing the fluid-flow medium, which has a transverse and an axial component relative to the axis of rotation of the rotor. The axial components are in the same direction and the transverse components are in the opposite direction.
