  • Publication number: 20020134400
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for cleaning oxidized, rolled copper rods which, after casting in a continuously operating continuous-casting device, emerge from a rolling mill arranged downstream of the continuous-casting device and which, on emerging from the rolling mill, have oxidic layers on their surface. The process is characterized, inter alia, in that the oxidized, finish-rolled rod is passed through one or more reduction zones at a temperature of approx. 650° C.; in that a dilute, aqueous hydrocarbon-containing solution is used as reducing liquid in the reduction zone(s), and in that the rate at which the chemical reactions for reducing the two types of oxide which are present is made more intensive by making the bath turbulent by means of one or more ultrasound sources.

  • Patent number: 6401323
Abstract: A process for producing welded pipes, from Cu and Cu alloys in a combined production line, having a casting installation for raw materials, a hot-rolling mill, a pipe-shaping and welding section and a drawing device for the welded pipe. The process has the sequence of the following process steps: a. casting of a virtually endless initial strip, b. hot-rolling of the cast initial strip at a rolling speed=casting speed×extension, to form an intermediate strip, c. cooling of the intermediate strip to ≦100° C. to RT and descaling of the surface of the intermediate strip, d. cold-rolling of the intermediate strip to form a strip, e. coiling of the untrimmed strip to form coils of predetermined weights, the steps a to e being carried out as an in-line process followed, directly or after interim storage, by the following further operating steps, f. unwinding and shaping of the strip to form a longitudinal seam pipe, g. welding of the longitudinal seam to form a longitudinal seam pipe, h.

  • Patent number: 5800088
Abstract: A device for changing a roll disk arranged in a free-floating fashion on a roll shaft and braced against a shoulder of the roll shaft, the device including a roll shaft piece connectable to an end face of the roll shaft and having radially projecting claws. An installation-and-removal unit is placeable on and coaxially turnable to the roll shaft. The unit has radially extending first, second and third claws that form perimeter segments. The first claws correspond to and engage with the claws of the roll shaft piece. A taper bushing is slidably provided between the roll disk and the roll shaft to hold the roll disk on the roll shaft, and has radially extending claws. The second claws correspond to and engage with the taper bushing claws, and are also moveable axially to the roll shaft. A ring is coaxially mounted on a side of the roll disk facing the unit, and has radially extending claws that correspond to and engage behind the third claws.

  • Patent number: 5366001
Abstract: Oxygen-free copper, particularly wire, is manufactured in a casting and rolling plant composed of melting plant, continuous casting mold and a subsequently arranged continuous rolling mill. The method includes bending a billet leaving the casting plant along a straight line into the horizontal, after the billet has been reduced in at least one shaping pass. The arrangement for carrying out the method includes at least one shaping stand arranged following the continuous casting mold, wherein the rolling axis of the shaping stand coincides with the longitudinal center axis of the continuous casting mold. The region between melting furnace and continuous casting mold and the region between continuous casting mold and the shaping stand are arranged under gas shrouding.

  • Patent number: 4770228
Abstract: A metal casting device employs a number of pairs of mold members which can be opened or closed with respect to each other. The mold chamber pairs cooperate, in their closed state, to form a linear mold chamber. In order to compensate for shrinkage as the metal cools, the mold member pairs are movably supported by an endless chain, with the pairs of cooperating mold members being provided with contact faces having the same angle of inclination. Each mold member pair is also equipped with supporting rollers with which the associated mold chamber section can be closed or opened, as required.
