  • Patent number: 8047773
Abstract: A support apparatus for a gas turbine shroud is disclosed. The apparatus includes an outer shroud block having a coupling connectable to a casing of the gas turbine and a shroud component having a forward flange and an aft flange. The shroud component is attached to the outer shroud block via the forward flange and the aft flange. The apparatus further includes a damper disposed between the outer shroud block and the shroud component and a biasing element disposed within the outer shroud block. A translational degree of freedom between the damper and the outer shroud block defines a direction of motion of the damper. The biasing element is in operable connection between the outer shroud block and the shroud component via the damper, a bias force of the biasing element directed along the direction of motion of the damper.

  • Publication number: 20110256358
Abstract: A method for fabricating a ceramic composite includes forming a first ceramic composite layer (CCL), positioning a form against the first CCL, positioning a second CCL against the form such that the form is at least partially circumscribed by the first CCL and the second CCL. The method also includes coupling the first CCL to the second CCL, such that at least a first passage extends in a first direction across at least a portion of the ceramic composite component and is defined at least partially by the first CCL and the second CCL in a location vacated by the first form.

  • Publication number: 20110182738
Abstract: A turbine bucket that includes a platform and an airfoil extending radially outward from the platform. The airfoil includes a root segment and a tip segment. The root segment includes a first end and a second end. The root first end extends from a radially outer surface of the platform. The root segment extends from the root first end to the root second end. The tip segment includes a tip first end and a tip second end. The tip first end is removably coupled to the root second end. The tip segment extends outward from the root second end to the tip second end.

  • Publication number: 20110085899
Abstract: A turbine shroud assembly is disclosed, the shroud assembly including an outer shroud, at least one inner shroud attached to the outer shroud, and at least one discourager enclosed within the inner shroud. The discourager prevents the hot gas or steam in the turbine from having a direct line of access to the outer shroud. In one embodiment, one inner shroud is provided for the shroud assembly, with one discourager enclosed within the inner shroud, the discourager positioned offset from the inner shroud so as to extend past the inner shroud and into an inner shroud of a neighboring shroud assembly. In another embodiment, a plurality of inner shrouds are provided, each inner shroud enclosing a discourager, the discouragers being adjacent to each other within the inner shrouds and positioned offset from the inner shrouds so as to cover a gap between the inner shrouds.
