  • Patent number: 6666263
Abstract: The device is used to cool a vehicle appliance, in particular a battery or a fuel cell, by means of a coolant. It has a plurality of identically designed cooling elements, through which coolant can flow, which can be brought into bearing contact to cool at least one component of the vehicle appliance. It includes a first cooling-element side and a second cooling-element side which is on the opposite side from the first cooling-element side. The cooling-element sides have connection openings, which form inlet and outlet openings for the coolant and are in communication with the interior space of the cooling element. In this arrangement, it is provided for the first and second cooling-element sides each to have at least two connection openings.

  • Publication number: 20030098146
Abstract: The invention relates to a heat exchanger, particularly of cross-current design, through which at least two separate media can flow. It comprises plates which are stacked on one another and which are spaced apart from one another in some areas and are in contact with one another in other areas, so that flow paths are formed between respectively adjacent plates in a heat exchange region. The plates have apertures adjacent to the heat exchange region, and the plates are spaced apart from one another by means of shaped-out portions of the plates. Areas succeeding one another about the circumference of the plates have apertures, and these areas are alternately shaped out in opposite directions from the plane of the plates.

  • Publication number: 20020184908
Abstract: The invention relates to a vehicle cooling system (1) for a temperature-raising device (4), especially a drive battery or fuel cell, preferably for an electric or hybrid vehicle. The system has a coolant (7) that cools the device (4) with the involvement of an air-conditioning system (8) that serves for air-conditioning of the vehicle passenger compartment. It is preferred that the coolant (7) be a liquid coolant, which is carried in a cooling circuit (2) and for cooling of the liquid to be thermally integrated into the refrigeration circuit (3) of the air-conditioning system. The invention further relates to a method for cooling a temperature-raising vehicle device.

  • Publication number: 20020023741
Abstract: The invention relates to a plate-type heat exchanger having a plate block comprising partition plates which delimit flow channel layers between the plates. According to the invention, the partition plates have a solid or folded edge, which projects out of the plane of at least one main side of the partition plates at the edge side, along closed-edge regions which are spaced apart from one another in the peripheral direction by means of intervening open-edge regions. In the plate block, this solid or folded edge is joined in a fluid-tight manner to the opposite edge region of an adjoining partition plate and functions as a lateral boundary for the associated flow channel layer. Such heat exchangers may be used, for example, in automobiles and reactors of fuel cell systems.

  • Patent number: 6318456
Abstract: The invention relates to a heat exchanger of the crosscurrent type, through which at least two fluids flow, consisting of plates which are stacked one on the other between two cover plates and which are spaced from one another in regions and are in contact in regions, so that fluid paths are formed between them in a heat transfer region, and of inlet ducts and outlet ducts which are arranged laterally in duct regions and which are formed from inlet duct openings and outlet duct openings in the plates, at least one inlet duct and one outlet duct being fluidically connected to a group of fluid paths which are next but one. The object of the invention is to develop a heat exchanger of the type initially mentioned, in such a way that, while having at least the same operating reliability, it can be produced more efficiently and more cost-effectively and has a lower weight.

  • Patent number: 5887476
Abstract: A method and a device for the draw expansion of metal tubes of oval cross-section uses expansion elements drawn unidirectionally through metal tubes by means of draw elements. The expansion elements are fastened to the draw elements by suspension devices which have a hammer-like contour. The draw elements are preferably made of a rod-shaped material. An apparatus of the invention is an apparatus for mechanically expanding metallic tubes, in particular tubes in heat exchangers. Each individual tube to be expanded is held in at least one holding device and passed through by a drawing mandrel with an expanding element. To prevent jamming of the expanding element in one of the holding devices, the holding devices are provided with lateral guides which are resiliently compliant outward in the radial direction. When the expanding element passes through the metallic tube, the tube is expanded in the radial direction.

  • Patent number: 5743329
Abstract: A heat exchanger is disclosed which has a collecting pipe having formed therein at least one slot whereby the slot lies in a plane roughly perpendicular to the collecting pipe longitudinal axis. A flat pipe, which is capable of accommodating a fluid, a partition, or the like can be inserted into the slot, the narrow sides of the slot being limited by parallel-running slot walls of the collecting pipe which extend roughly along a tangent to a circle around the pipe longitudinal axis. The slot length, determined by the spacing between the slot walls, corresponds at least to the pipe inner diameter. A method of making a slot in a collecting pipe also is disclosed whereby in order to produce the smallest possible pipe diameter and high compressive strength, a stable and seal-tight connection of a laterally issuing structural part is ensured.

  • Patent number: 5718286
Abstract: A plate sandwich structure for a heat transfer device provides flow duct plate units alternately stacked upon one another having flow duct breakthroughs which extend between two lateral plate areas as well as with connection duct breakthroughs, which are arranged separately from the flow duct breakthroughs, and connection cover plate units having connection duct breakthroughs arranged at least in two lateral plate areas. The last named breakthroughs suitably overlap with equal-sided ends in a flow duct breakthrough of one adjoining lateral plate area as well as a connection duct breakthrough of a flow duct plate unit adjoining the other lateral plate area. This results in two separate flow duct systems which are capable of passing two fluids in a cross current, reverse current or direct current. The structure can be used, for example, as a high temperature battery cooling element.

  • Patent number: 5669440
Abstract: A heat exchanger, produced by the insertion of welded pipes into a rib pack, has a good connection between the rib pack and the pipes after expansion of the pipes. An optimal contact of the pipes against the passages in the cooling fins of the rib pack is achieved because the weld base of the welded pipe lies in a recess. The recess is formed by reduction of the wall thickness of a strip material from which the welded pipe is produced.

  • Patent number: 5665261
Abstract: An electric heating device includes a plurality of heating elements which are assembled to form a block. Such a heating element is formed from two metal plates, with the interposition of PTC elements. In order to increase the heat transfer, the metal plates are provided with corrugation ribs. Each heating element includes a pair of metal plates which are angled off essentially in the form of an L such that the angled-off sections are connected in a frictionally locking manner to each other. The angled-off sections are arranged at opposite ends of the heating elements and angled in opposite directions, the length of the angled-off sections of the metal plates being dimensioned such that angled-off sections of one pair of metal plates are in mutual abutment with angled-off sections of respectively adjacent pairs of metal plates.
