  • Patent number: 4250887
Abstract: An apparatus for injecting a radiopaque dye into an artery of a patient during intraoperative arteriography, where the plunger of a syringe containing the injectate is driven by a separate but connected hydraulic sub-system operated by a surgeon who is at a location that is remote and safe from the radiation, and where the hydraulic sub-system provides for the surgeon, the feel and control of a conventional syringe operated manually in the immediate vicinity of the patient.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 18, 1979
Date of Patent: February 17, 1981

  • Patent number: 3988782
Abstract: Arteries and veins of umbilical cords are hardened and shaped by processes described. Prostheses in the form of tubes, patches and conduits are prepared from the shaped vessels. The prostheses are used as reinforcements and replacements for vessels, ducts, intestines and urinary bladders. The processes result in products which have vanishingly low antigenicity and thrombogenicity, are resistant to infection and which may be stored indefinitely for use when needed by a surgeon.

Date of Patent: November 2, 1976
Inventors: Irving I. Dardik, Herbert Dardik
  • Patent number: 3974526
Abstract: A process for producing tubular prostheses for use in vascular reconstructive surgery is described. The invention comprises chemically and structurally modifying the veins and arteries of the human umbilical cord to obtain a vascular grafting material which is superior to existing blood vessel substitutes. The process involves the steps of (a) removing the internal veins and arteries of the umbilical cord from its outer tissue; (b) separating these vessels from one another; (c) treating the vessels with cleansing and tanning agents to eliminate antigenicity; (d) shaping the vessels by inserting a mandrel; and (e) applying a mesh support to the shaped and tanned prosthesis. The process of repairing, replacing and augmenting a human and animal vein or artery using the prosthesis produced by the process is also described.
