Patent number: 4428727Abstract: A burner for introducing a suspension of solid fuel particles into a combustion chamber which includes a tubular conduit arranged to receive the suspension therethrough, and flow diverting means positioned at the discharge end of the conduit, and subdividing the cross section of the discharge end into a plurality of discharge openings. The burner may include a centrally disposed conduit which is coaxial with and surrounded by the tubular conduit, and an outer conduit surrounding the tubular conduit and coaxial therewith. The flow diverting means can be positioned at various positions between the respective conduits, to create a turbulent suspension of particles in the primary air stream, creating an aspirating effect for drawing secondary air into the burner along with the turbulent suspension of solid fuel particles.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1981Date of Patent: January 31, 1984Assignee: Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AGInventors: Herbert Deussner, Horst Herchenbach, Hubert Ramesohl, Wolfgang Breidenstein

Patent number: 4289483Abstract: Apparatus for the production of cement from raw material to the clinker stage is disclosed. The raw material is first heated in a heat exchanger with the heat energy being supplied by the waste heat from subsequent stages of this process. The heated raw material is then passed into a heat exchanger to be partially calcined. Calcination is completed in another heat exchanger, with the waste heat used in the final calcination being supplemented with combustion of a fuel. The calcined material is then passed to a kiln for conversion to clinker, from which the material is then cooled, the warmed cooling air to be used partially for combustion in the kiln and partially during calcination.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1979Date of Patent: September 15, 1981Assignee: Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AGInventor: Herbert Deussner

Patent number: 4248641Abstract: A method and apparatus for the production of cement clinker from a raw material containing sufficient moisture to be agglomerated wherein the raw material is dried and subsequently subjected to calcining in a series of steps including preheating, deacidification, sintering and cooling. The exhaust gases are passed from the calcining step into the drying step. The raw material exiting from the drying step is pulverized into a fine powder and then transferred directly into the preheating step without intermediate storage.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1980Date of Patent: February 3, 1981Assignee: Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AGInventor: Herbert Deussner

Patent number: 4212850Abstract: This invention relates to a countercurrent combustion method and apparatus for the production of calcined lime in a furnace which contains, in sequence, at least one preheating zone, combustion zone, and a cooling zone. The entire combustion air is passed through the cooling zone thereby to preheat the same. A portion of the thus preheated air is withdrawn from the furnace and heated in a recuperation zone which may be within or outside the vertical shaft furnace but is located between the preheating zone and the combustion zone. In the recuperation zone, the air is heated to approximately the deacidification temperature and then is supplied to the combustion zone.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1978Date of Patent: July 15, 1980Assignee: Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AGInventor: Herbert Deussner

Patent number: 4209296Abstract: An apparatus and method for the treatment of fine grained materials including a calcining furnace, a plurality of cyclone separators arranged in series, with exhaust means delivering exhaust gases from the calcining furnace to one of the cyclone separators, with at least the first two of the plurality of cyclone separators being at substantially the same vertical height. Supplemental combustion means consisting of a fuel injection means and a combustion air injection means are included in the path of the exhaust gases passing from the furnace through the plurality of cyclone separators to render the system more efficient and to reduce the size of the components.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1978Date of Patent: June 24, 1980Assignee: Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AktiengesellschaftInventor: Herbert Deussner

Patent number: 4183762Abstract: A method for the production of cement from raw material to the clinker stage. The raw material is first heated using waste heat from subsequent stages of this process. The heated raw material is then passed into a precalcining stage in which the raw material is partially calcined. The calcination is then completed in an after-calcining stage wherein heat is provided by the combustion of a fuel. The material is next passed to a kiln for conversion to clinker, and is then cooled in a cooling stage. Air for the combustion and the after-calcining stage and in the kiln is supplied from the cooling stage.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 1978Date of Patent: January 15, 1980Assignee: Klockner-Humboldt Deutz AktiengesellschaftInventor: Herbert Deussner

Patent number: 4088438Abstract: An apparatus for the heat treatment of fine-grained material, particularly pulverized raw material for use in the manufacture of cement, the apparatus comprising a preheater composed of a plurality of superimposed cyclones, the preheater feeding a rotary kiln. An exhaust conduit is connected to the rotary kiln and has a combustion zone formed therein. The gas discharge from one of the intermediate cyclones is directed into the combustion zone. The exhaust conduit includes a pair of upper and lower concentric conduits, the upper conduit having its lower end received in spaced relation to the upper end of the lower conduit and terminating at the combustion zone. A fuel feed conduit is disposed between the lower end of the upper conduit and the upper end of the lower conduit. The arrangement provides for a more efficient treatment of finely divided particles with the hot gases.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1976Date of Patent: May 9, 1978Assignee: Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AktiengesellschaftInventors: Herbert Deussner, Hubert Ramesohl, Horst Herchenbach
