  • Patent number: 6769377
Abstract: A gear-train driven outrigger device for use on a fishing vessel having a first tubular member for holding of an outrigger pole, which is rotatably journaled to a second tubular member that is mounted to a fixed structure. The second tubular member housing a gear-train driver assembly that allows manual or motor driven rotation of the outrigger pole. The gear-train driver assembly constructed and arranged to provide infinite adjustment of the outrigger pole upon rotation of the first tubular member. The rotation of the first tubular member allows for movement of the outrigger pole from a stowage position to a trolling position and vice versa.

  • Patent number: 5738035
Abstract: An improved locking unit is disclosed for outrigger devices that are installed on a T-top equipped motorboat that has an outrigger pole supported by its bottom end portion above the T-top and which permits the outrigger pole to be moved by rotation of the lower end portion from a stowage position to a trolling position and vis versa by a person safely standing in the motorboat in the shelter of the T-top by manipulation of locking unit. Such locking unit includes (a) a tubular member, (b) a cylindrical collar fixed to the tubular member, (c) an indexing ring carried on the collar and having a plurality of side opening cavities, (d) a compression feature on the indexing ring selectively to prevent or permit such ring's rotation on the collar, (e) a rotation ring carrying a locking lever and (f) an arcuate tube that supports the bottom end of the outrigger pole is rotatably carried in the tubular member and is pinned to the rotation ring.

  • Patent number: 5445102
Abstract: An outrigger device for use on a fishing boat upon which it is mounted for both lateral movement, e.g., between trolling and stowage positions, and vertical movement, e.g., between vertical and horizontal, includes an outrigger pole receptacle tube, a mount unit including a plate for attachment to the boat, a standard tube that extends upwardly through and rotates in a central opening in the plate, a pivot unit fixed to the top end of the standard tube that mounts the receptacle tube to said standard tube for angled positioning between the two and a bifurcated, cam operated lock unit that surrounds the standard tube and is carried on the plate for controlling rotation of the standard tube relative to the plate.

  • Patent number: 5191852
Abstract: An outrigger device for use with a motorboat upon which the device can be mounted for movement between an inboard storage position and an outboard trolling position includes a tube unit, a position unit moveable relative to the tube unit and a lock unit to releasably prevent such relative movement. The tube unit includes an elongated tube, a first shackle member fixed to its inboard end, a first mounting bracket and a universal joint supporting the shackle member on the first bracket. The position unit includes a V-shaped yoke with clevis members fixed on its ends plus second and third bracket members upon which the clevis members are pivoted. One of such bracket members including a latch to lock the device in an inboard storage position.

  • Patent number: 5163244
Abstract: An improved striking fishing rod holder for permanent installation on the cockpit gunnel or other location of a fishing boat is disclosed that enables hook-setting movement of the rod upon a fish strike of the bait trolled from the rod without removal of the rod from the holder. The new holders include a mounting plate assembly, a depending tubular member hinged to the plate assembly that swings from a troll position to a hit position and a detent assembly to releasably hold the tubular member alternatively in the troll or hit position. Advantageously, the holder also has an adjustment unit to vary the force required to override the detent assembly to release the tubular member for movement between its troll and hit positions. When a fish hits the bait being trolled from the rod held in the improved holder, movement of the rod in the new holder from the troll position to the hit position, alerts the fisherman that a fish strike has been made.

  • Patent number: 4993346
Abstract: An improved outrigger device for a T-Top equipped motorboat that permits the outrigger thereof located above the T-Top to be moved from a stowage position to a trolling position and vis versa by an occupant of the boat standing in the shelter of such T-Top includes a tubular member having an upper end portion and a lower end portion joined integrally to a central portion that extends through such T-Top with its upper end portion positioned above the T-Top and its lower end portion positioned below it. A tubular outrigger having a bottom end portion and an elongated fishing line support portion extending upwardly from the bottom end portion is rotatably journalled in the tubular member. A locking unit is associated with the lower end portion of the tubular member to prevent the bottom end portion of the outrigger from rotating in the tubular member.

  • Patent number: 4889064
Abstract: Improved spreader assemblies for cable trussed masts of sportfishing boat outriggers have spreader arms formed of straight metal tubing and a cable guide through which one of the cables passes is removably fitted into the outboard end of each spreader arm. There is a spreader arm holder that includes a collar sized to encircle the mast and four bores in such collar are positioned in a common transverse plane spaced 90.degree. apart in which the inboard ends of the spreader arms are retained. A lug extends laterally from the collar at each collar bore location creating an extension of the respective bore to provide support to the inboard end of the spreader arm inserted in such bore.

  • Patent number: 4687168
Abstract: A device for use in mounting on a boat or other mobile unit a radio antenna of the whip type includes a support member and a collar member. The support member has a partial ring portion with a side opening and an integral mount extending laterally from the side of the partial ring portion opposite to the opening by which the support member may be fixed to a support surface. The inside surface of the ring portion is tapered inwardly along its length. The collar member includes a tubular body having a bore of diameter approximating the diameter of the cylindrical base portion of the antenna and a plurality of integral fingers depend inwardly from its lower end. On the outside of the collar member is a tapered section having an angle of taper matching that of the taper in the support member so the collar member may nest in the support member.

  • Patent number: 4632050
Abstract: Outriggers for sportfishing boats of the tubular mast type strengthened by a plurality of longitudinal truss cables to resist mast bending are improved by new spreader assemblies that include unique cable spreader arms that have (a) tubular sockets on their inboard end, (b) a cable guide through which an anti-bending cable passes removably fitted into their outboard end and (c) a frangible portion in the arm to break when the arm is overloaded. The improved spreader assemblies include (1) a collar, sized to encircle the mast and (2) a plurality of lateral posts, each threaded at one end into the collar and sized to slideably receive the tubular socket of one of the spreader arms to retain the arm extending laterally outwardly from the collar creating a cable truss member. The truss cables are connected to the mast via unique ball-anchor lugs formed as integral portions of the mast collars.

  • Patent number: 4611423
Abstract: An outrigger clip for releasably holding a fishing line in trolling position astern a fishing boat has an elongated body with fastener members on each end for supporting the clip outboard of the boat on outrigger lines. A V-shaped roller over which the fishing line may freely run during trolling is rotatably retained on a shaft that extends laterally from a gate hinged on the midsection of the body about a pivot axis substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the body so the roller may swing between a closed, fishing line holding position and an opened, release position. A lug extends from the same side of the gate as the shaft at an acute angle. Detent members frictionally engage such lug when the roller is in the holding position and there are springs adjustably compressed in longitudinal bores in the body to apply pressure on the detent members for regulating the holding force applied to the lug to control the pull required to release the fishing line from the clip when a fish strikes.
