  • Patent number: 4365040
Abstract: Strongly adhering aqueous plastic dispersions based on copolymers of olefinically unsaturated compounds, which are particularly suitable as binding agents for paints and lacquers and as adhesives, and which are distinguished by their good wet adhesion are described. This is achieved by the inclusion by polymerization of from 0.2% to 7% by weight, based on the total weight of the monomers, of vinyl and/or allyl diacetylacetate having the formula:CH.sub.2 .dbd.CH--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --O--CO--CH(CO--CH.sub.3).sub.2wherein n is 0 or 1, in the production of copolymers of the invention in an aqueous emulsion.

  • Patent number: 4337323
Abstract: Stabilized aqueous dispersions of vinyl chloride polymer having at least 25% by weight of vinyl chloride units in the polymer and having K values of between 20 and 80, having added as a stabilizing agent 0.3-6% by weight of substances selected from the group of compounds according to the general formula ##STR1## wherein n has the meaning of from 0 to 2 or water-soluble salts thereof. The invention also relates to a process of producing the stabilized products by adding the stabilizing agent after polymerization in aqueous dispersion, and to the use of the stabilized dispersions in binders, coating compositions, paints, adhesives, textile auxiliaries and paper-coating compositions.

  • Patent number: 4336172
Abstract: Aqueous dispersions containing from 30% to 70% by weight of cross-linkable copolymers based on esters of (meth)acrylic acid comprising esters of (meth)acrylic acid and/or styrene, and other ethylenically-unsaturated compounds copolymerizable therewith and from 1% to 15% by weight based on the total weight of the copolymer, of allyl esters of .alpha.-hydroxycarboxylic acids. These dispersions can be used as a base of stoving enamels, which can be hardened to obtain coats of great surface hardness and great flexibility on metals.

  • Patent number: 4263191
Abstract: An additive composition used in the preparation of low air pore, plastic-containing, hydraulically-setting binders consisting essentially of a mixture of (1) an aqueous copolymer dispersion having a solids content of between 30% and 65% by weight, a glass transition temperature of the solid copolymer of between -10.degree. C. and +40.degree. C., and a K-value of the solid copolymer of from 35 to 80, which aqueous copolymer dispersion being produced from monomer units of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate and one or more additional copolymerizable monomers selected from the group consisting of ethylene, vinyl alkanoates having from 8 to 18 carbon atoms in the alkanoyl, and (meth)acrylic acid esters with alkanols having 3 to 8 carbon atoms, by free-radical polymerization in the presence of from 1.5% to 5% by weight of protective colloids and from 0 to 3% by weight of nonionic surface-active agents, both based on the dispersion, with (2) from 0.

  • Patent number: 4247438
Abstract: Aqueous ethylene/vinyl chloride/vinyl alkanoate and/or alkyl acrylate copolymer dispersions having a non-uniform particle size distribution, in which one particle size distribution maximum is at 0.03 to 0.2.mu. and a second maximum is at 0.15 to 1.mu. and in which 5% to 60% by weight of the particles belong to the amount of particles having said second maximum, which are produced by free-radical polymerization at 0.degree. to 90.degree. C., while stirring, in the presence of emulsifiers which, in amounts of 0.5% to 15% by weight, calculated on the final solid resin, are not added until a polymerization conversion of 1% to 60% by weight of the total amount of monomer has been reached.

  • Patent number: 4107002
Abstract: A process for the purification of crude acetic anhydride by continuous fractional distillation, which comprises first introducing the anhydride into an evaporator, thereafter removing from the evaporator the non-distillable components contained in the crude anhydride, then introducing the distillable components of the anhydride in vapor form into about the central section of a fractionating column, withdrawing from the top of the column the low boiling components together with acetic acid, withdrawing near the bottom of the column a high-percentage of pure acetic anhydride, and separating from the sump of the column up to about 8% by weight based on the initial amount of crude acetic anhydride and returning the same to the evaporator.
