  • Patent number: 8375897
Abstract: A gas water heater includes a power burner, a flue tube, an exhaust plenum, and a draft hood. The flue tube includes a portion that describes at least a 360° loop. Products of combustion are forced through the flue tube under the influence of the power burner, and enter the exhaust plenum. In the exhaust plenum, the pressure of the products of combustion drops such that the products of combustion flow into the draft hood substantially entirely under the influence of natural convection. In one embodiment, the power burner fires down into the flue tube through a side wall of the water heater, the loop of the flue tube is near the bottom of the water heater, and the plenum is in the top of the water heater.

  • Patent number: 6587441
Abstract: A wireless, redundant, secure, real-time, network for a proprietary interactive data transfer system having a remote terminal and a host data center, such as an automated teller banking system, is disclosed. Controllers for the remote terminal and the host data center receive the proprietary language messages and packetize and encrypt the messages for sending over the best wireless carrier among the plurality of wireless carriers the controllers are connected to. The wireless control protocol monitors the communications to provide for selection of the most reliable communication carrier for any part of a transmission. Each network segment of the signal path has at least one state-controlled gate which reports the status of that signal path. Real time transmission and acknowledgment of securely packetized messages on wireless communications carriers via an object oriented coding control application provides for reliable datagram transfer independent of the reliability of any one signal path.

  • Patent number: 6295952
Abstract: A water heater including a water tank, a combustion chamber beneath the tank, a gas burner in the combustion chamber, an air plenum upstream of the combustion chamber, a flame arrestor located such that air in the air plenum passes through the flame arrestor to reach the combustion chamber, and a flue extending upwardly from the combustion chamber and through the water tank. An inner plate defines the lower boundary of the combustion chamber, and supports the flame arrestor. The inner plate is rolled around the bottom edge of the skirt. A raised ring is formed in the inner plate, and the flame arrestor is seated against the raised ring. An o-ring seal is positioned in a peripheral groove of the flame arrestor to substantially gas-tightly seal the periphery of the flame arrestor with respect to the inner plate. An access door is stamped and fit over a access opening in the skirt.

  • Patent number: 5792239
Abstract: A natural gas feed stream containing significant quantities of nitrogen and/or carbon dioxide can be increased to a content of greater than 95 percent by volume of natural gas, and preferably greater than about 98 percent, by passing the natural gas feed stream sequentially through three adsorbent beds that are cycled through seven phases comprising: an adsorption phase to adsorb a first gas, a first depressurization phase to remove feed gas from the voids in the adsorbent bed, a recycle phase to remove a second gas from the adsorbent by the passage of a second depressurization gas therethrough and to produce a recycle gas, a second depressurization phase to reduce the adsorbent bed pressure to about ambient and to produce the second depressurization gas, an evacuation phase where the pressure in the adsorbent is further reduced and an enriched primary gas product stream recovered, a pressurization phase where the pressure in the adsorbent bed is increased using secondary product gas from a bed in an adsorpti

  • Patent number: 5707425
Abstract: The present process is directed to the efficient recovery of helium gas from gas streams which contain about 25 percent by volume or more helium. The process comprises two stages of pressure swing adsorption, each stage being comprised of a plurality of interconnected adsorbent beds. In the first stage of pressure swing adsorption which is comprised of about five phases, the helium content of the gas stream is increased to 95 percent by volume or more. A secondary product gas stream from the first stage of pressure swing adsorption is fed to the second stage of pressure swing adsorption. The second stage of pressure swing adsorption increases the helium content of this primarily non-helium product gas to more than about 50 percent by volume. This gas now with a helium content of more than about 50 percent by volume is fed along with the gas stream as the input gas to the first stage of pressure swing adsorption.

  • Patent number: 4116322
Abstract: An engine is combined with a dual clutch assembly comprising independently engageable and disengageable power take-off and drive clutches in tandem. To minimize the overall length of the combination despite the use of twin plates in the drive clutch, that face of the flywheel remote from the engine has a counterbore defined by a recessed driving surface and a surrounding axially-projecting flange, the power take-off clutch being disposed partially within this counterbore. Circumferentially-spaced radially-outwardly-projecting lugs on the pressure plate for the power take-off clutch are slideable axially in radial slots in the flange.

  • Patent number: 4114479
Abstract: Epicyclic gearing comprises a sun gear journalled on a shaft and meshing with a plurality of planet pinions which mesh also with a rotationally fixed annular gear, the pinions being journalled in a planet carrier having a floating driving connection with a sleeve rigidly secured on the shaft by splines and a lock-nut, the floating connection including respective sets of external gear teeth on the sleeve and the lock-nut and two sets of internal gear teeth on the planet carrier which mesh with the respective sets of external gear teeth, and the tip diameter of one set of teeth on the planet carrier being greater than the tip diameter of the teeth on the lock-nut.

  • Patent number: 4084641
Abstract: Adjustable mixed automatic height and draft control apparatus for a tractor power lift mechanism includes a height control rocker actuated by the tractor's rockshaft, a draft control rocker actuated by the tractor's hitch linkage, and a first balance lever moveable relative to either one of the rockers by movement of the other. A control linkage has its point of connection to the first balance lever variable by a first hand lever to adjust the mixture of height and draft control, a second hand lever gives over-riding manual control of the power lift mechanism, and a second balance lever is moveable relative to either one of the control linkage and the other hand lever by movement of the second. The second balance lever actuates the control valve of the power lift mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4043546
Abstract: A compression spring capable of having a very high rate comprises co-axial annular plates alternating in an axial direction with diametrical strips adjacent ones of which are perpendicular to one another. The spring may comprise a stack of washers with diametrically opposed pads or radial ribs on their faces, said washers having non-circular bores enabling them to be located non-rotatably on a correspondingly non-circular central support. Alternatively, the spring may comprise a single tubular element with pairs of diametrically opposed tangential slots perpendicular to its axis which extend from its periphery into its bore.

  • Patent number: 4037520
Abstract: An improved fluid motor having only two moving components, a reciprocatable piston and a fluid actuated valve spool. The piston is supported for linear movement in a piston support bore of a barrel assembly, and is moved in alternating directions by the operation of selected porting of a pressure fluid selectively admitted against differential piston pressure faces. The valve spool is disposed in an inner bore in the piston and is alternately driven in opposing directions by automatically controlled and selective application of fluid pressure. The fluid motor experiences no mechanical impact between the valve spool and the piston.

  • Patent number: 4032465
Abstract: Detergent compositions are prepared containing a carboxymethyloxysuccinate salt detergency builder by spray drying a slurry containing dispersed carboxymethyloxysuccinate salt and detergent compound, to which slurry an alkali metal silicate is added after the addition of the carboxymethyloxysuccinate salt, with the slurry water content being maintained at not less than 40% of the final slurry formulation and a slurry temperature of not less than 76.degree. C. This decreases the formation of insoluble lumps in the slurry and gives improved slurry viscosity control.
