  • Patent number: 4920239
Abstract: In the switch housing of an electric switch a carrier is pivotally mounted between a housing cover plate and an intermediate cover plate by a pivot pin and a bearing bore. The switch lever of the switch can also be rotated about its longitudinal axis independently of the carrier and/or be rotated about an axis which is perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the carrier. A linearly movable slide is positioned between a housing base plate and the intermediate cover plate. The slide is adjusted by a movement of the switch lever which is independent of a carrier movement. In order to achieve this in a space-saving and simple way the pivot pin which acts as the carrier bearing in the intermediate cover plate is a hollow pin coupling the switch lever with the slide.

  • Patent number: 4882457
Abstract: A steering column switch for motor vehicles comprises a switch member guiding the bridging contact and being swivellably located around an axis. The stationary contacts, however, acted upon by this bridging contact are arranged along a straight line and in a plane repsectively in parallel to the axis of rotation of the switch member. The bridging contact is not directly guided by the switch member, but by a switching arm substantially radially swivellable in relation to the switch member so that the bridging contact is movable along a staight line despite the circular movement of the switch member.

  • Patent number: 4857815
Abstract: This invention relates to a switch for energizing an electric motor of a wiper system from a voltage source, which motor has a switching member to be changed over in several modes of continuous operation as well as in a mode of intermittment operation. The switching member has two bridging contacts of which the first one co-operates with stationary contacts on a first contact path and the second one with stationary contacts on a second contact path. Thereby in at least one switching position a further mode of operation of the wiper system may be switched on via the second bridging contact and the stationary contacts of the associated second contact path in addition to intermittent operation. The switch has thus a high operational reliability, because there is little risk for a simultaneous failure of a stationary contact associated to the same mode of operation on both contact paths.

  • Patent number: 4791253
Abstract: This invention relates to an electric switch, especially to a steering column switch. The switch comprises an insulation plate, a switch lever and a switching member, which are jointly swivellably mounted on the insulation plate in a swivelling plane extending perpendicular to a swivelling shaft and which are tiltable from this plane. In the swivelling plane, the lever and switching member can occupy several operating positions. The various operating positions are defined by a locking cam and a detent. One of these two elements is positioned on a locking lever. One end of said locking lever is swivellably mounted about a shaft parallel to the swivelling shaft of the switching member and the locking member is resiliently prestressed against the switching member.

  • Patent number: 4739132
Abstract: This invention relates to a steering column switch with two switch units arranged in superposed planes, which switch units each have a board with injection-moulded metal conductors and plug contacts the ends of which are rectangularly bent. The ends of the plug contacts of the switch unit which, in the plugging direction, is farther away from the connector, are positioned laterally of the ends of the other switch unit with a spacing from a conceived plane through the housing, which spacing is larger than the spacing of the ends of the plug contacts of the other switch unit from this plane. Thus a compact construction of the connection area of the switch is ensured.

  • Patent number: 4733030
Abstract: In a steering column switch for motor vehicles a hazard-warning signal switch is clipped onto the printed circuit board of the turn-signal switch. The turn-signal switch is contacted at the upper side and the hazard-warning signal switch at the underside of the printed circuit board. The hazard-warning signal switch is compactly constructed and does not impede the movability of the other switch levers and switch slides of the steering column switch.

  • Patent number: 4678875
Abstract: A steering column switch has two switching members superposed in a housing, which are swivellable about two parallel axes at least substantially diametrically opposite each other relative to a central aperture and tiltable perpendicularly to the swivelling plane. Two planar insulating plates provided with metal conductors stand perpendicularly on the swivelling plane. Each insulating plate has a free end formed as plug part and on one of these plates it is changed over when one switching member is tilted. To simplify the construction of the switch and to lower contact resistances switch contacts are also changed over on one of the two perpendicularly standing insulating plates with a tilting of the other switching member and with a swivelling of each of the two switching members.

  • Patent number: 4648728
Abstract: A steering column switch for motor vehicles includes a support sleeve, which may be mounted on the end of a steering tube. The sleeve, between an internal collar integrally formed on it and a retaining ring is mounted a ball bearing for a steering spindle and which is made of plastics material. The retaining ring is separated from the support sleeve and held on it via the internal collar.

  • Patent number: 3940579
Abstract: A switch particularly for steering columns of automobiles for the selective operation of both light circuits and windshield wiper and washer circuits comprises a U-shaped spring contact having a first spring contact portion in a first plane and a second spring contact portion in a second plane. The switch includes a lever which is pivotal in both the first and second planes and which carries a rod member which may be engaged with the spring first portion to deflect it into engagement with a fixed contact for example for actuating a windshield wiper washer fluid supply circuit and which may be engaged during its pivotal movement for example in a vertical direction to move the spring second portion to engage a fixed contact which for example may operate a by-pass light circuit. The double spring contact actually includes the first spring portion which extends substantially vertical and at right angles to a horizontal portion.
