  • Patent number: 7918550
Abstract: Embodiment of the invention provide an ink jet cartridge for an ink jet printing device. In one embodiment, an ink jet cartridge can include a cartridge body operable to store ink jet printer ink for dispensing from the cartridge. The cartridge can further include at least one dispensing outlet operable to permit ink to be dispensed from the cartridge body. In addition, the cartridge can include a first foam portion positioned adjacent to the at least one dispensing outlet and operable to retain ink within the cartridge body until dispensed from the cartridge body. The cartridge can also include a second foam portion. Furthermore, the cartridge can include at least one membrane disposed between the first foam portion and the second foam portion, wherein the at least one membrane is operable to inhibit ink flow between the first foam portion and the second foam portion.

  • Patent number: 6684504
Abstract: An imageable support matrix for printhead nozzle plates and a method for manufacturing the printhead. The ink jet printhead comprises a substrate including an ink via therein; a first layer of imageable material, the first layer of imageable material having ink conducting voids therein and defining support structures adjacent the ink via; and a second layer of imageable material disposed on the first layer of imageable material, the second layer of imageable material including ink jet nozzles therein. The method includes providing a substrate; applying a first layer of imageable material on the substrate; masking the applied first layer of imageable material; and developing the masked first layer of imageable material to provide ink conducting voids in the first layer of imageable material and hardened areas of support.

  • Patent number: 6644789
Abstract: An ink jet nozzle assembly includes a heater substrate and a nozzle plate. The nozzle plate includes a first resist layer having a first side laminated onto the heater substrate. The first resist layer includes an ink cavity and at least one heater chamber in fluid communication with the ink cavity. A support layer has a first side and a second side. The first side of the support layer is in contact with a second side of the first resist layer such that the support layer at least partially covers the ink cavity. A second resist layer has a side in contact with each of the second side of the first resist layer and the second side of the support layer. The second resist layer is supported by the support layer such that the second resist layer is retained substantially outside of the ink cavity. The second resist layer includes at least one nozzle hole. Each nozzle hole is substantially aligned with a corresponding heater chamber.
