  • Patent number: 4714467
Abstract: In a method of producing implants of bone replacement material from resin reinforced with carbon fiber at least the fibers in the parts of the surface which are to come into contact with the bone tissue are exposed by mechanical treatment. This provides for an improved unification of the bone with the implant. The fibers at the surface may be fibers of a fabric which is wrapped around a basic member shaped to conform to the desired implant.

  • Patent number: 4411114
Abstract: Strut of a tubular wrapping of reinforcing fibers in a synthetic resin on a core, with two rounded tension end caps, the wrapping terminating on the rounded portions thereof, and with respectively one compression cap on an outer peg of each tension end cap and around the rounded section of the wrapping, in which strut the wrapping has longitudinal fibers extended over the rounded portions about pins affixed thereat and oriented obliquely toward the outside, and the core is a fiber-reinforced synthetic-resin pipe respectively attached on an inner peg of the tension peg for the concomitant absorption of the longitudinal compression or the longitudinal compression and longitudinal tension.

  • Patent number: 4221623
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a fiber-reinforced plastic body of irregular geometrical shape including winding a ring of fibers such that different sections of the ring around its periphery correspond in contour to sections of the body. The sections of the ring are cut from the remainder of the ring, and the sections joined together, such as by bonding to each other, to form the final body. The cut sections may be mechanically processed before joining them together. The fibers run approximately parallel to the outer contour of the finished body.

  • Patent number: 4155305
Abstract: A bending-resistant gripper carriage structure is constructed in a fiber sandwich construction of the gripper carriage support. At least one layer of fibers is provided which may be in a shell-type mode with two layers of fibers each having different directions of elongation, one layer having fibers extending in the longitudinal direction of the gripper carriage support, and the other layer having fibers extending crosswise to the longitudinal direction. Several manufacturing techniques can be utilized such as fiber winding and/or lamination of fiber strips or tubes.

  • Patent number: 4050997
Abstract: A fiber-reinforced composite material is produced by a method wherein chemical groups are generated on the surfaces of electrically conductive fibers to be used as reinforcing fibers by electrochemical activation in an electrically conductive bath or liquid, the so-activated fibers are treated with a chemical compound in a solvent containing an element capable of combining with the fibers, especially a metal, the compound is decomposed in the solvent to liberate the element and the element is combined with the activated surfaces of said fibers. The activating current for the electrochemical activation is preferably applied to the fibers without mechanical contact by way of the electrically conductive liquid.
