  • Patent number: 6806379
Abstract: A continuous process for preparing alkylamines comprises reacting continuous streams of ammonia and alkyl halide in a molar ratio of at least 10:1 in a pressure reactor. The ultimate reaction mixture has a temperature of >80° C., a pressure of >40 bar and an ammonium halide content of >1% by weight, and comprises two phases (A) a first phase comprising at least 75% by weight of the total amount of ammonium halide formed, and (B) a second phase comprising at least 80% by weight of the total amount of alkylamine formed. The first and second phases are separated, and an alkylamine product is recovered therefrom.

  • Patent number: 6403729
Abstract: The invention provides a process for heterophase reactions in a liquid or supercritical dispersion medium, in which the starting materials are introduced into the reaction zone of a reactor provided with one or more enrichment zones and the reaction product or unreacted starting material or both starting material and reaction product are discharged via one enrichment zone in each case, wherein a) the reaction product together with the dispersion medium is discharged from the reactor via an enrichment zone, the reaction product is separated off and the dispersion medium is, if desired in countercurrent to the reaction product/dispersion medium mixture and via an enrichment zone, returned to the reaction zone, or b) unreacted starting material together with the dispersion medium is discharged, the starting material is separated from the dispersion medium and returned directly to the reaction zone and the dispersion medium is, if desired, in countercurrent to the reaction product/dispersion medium mixture and vi

  • Patent number: 5108715
Abstract: In an apparatus for treating aggressive, explosive, radioactive or toxic material or solid suspensions within a container and having a rotatable shaft supported in a housing and having one end projecting into the container and another end acted upon by a drive element, an arrangement for sealing the support and the drive element of the shaft includes a mechanical seal arranged between the shaft and the housing in the area of the container, and a static, hermetically closing sealing element arranged in the area of the drive element between the shaft and the drive element, on the one hand, and the housing, on the other hand. The interior space of the housing is filled with a lubricant which is maintained at a pressure corresponding or exceeding the pressure in the container.

  • Patent number: 4828867
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of extracting natural materials with carbon dioxide, in which the materials are used in the form of pellets of a diameter of 1.5 to 4.0 mm and a length of 1.5 to 10 mm, and of a bulk density of 0.4 to 0.6 kg/l, this method being highly suitable for the carbon dioxide extraction of hop constituents, so that the commonly practiced second grinding becomes unnecessary.

  • Patent number: 4687547
Abstract: The present invention provides a process for the separation of materials obtained by means of high pressure extraction from an extraction agent, wherein extraction agent loaded with extracted material is passed from below into a separator comprising a head (2), a bottom (3), a runback pipe (4) and a heat exchanger (1) in the form of one or more pipes and extract recycled in a forced circulation via the head (2) and the runback pipe (4) to the bottom (3) and there either discharged and/or returned to the heat exchanger (1), the extraction agent evaporated in the heat exchanger being removed via a filter (11) on the head (2).

  • Patent number: 4644557
Abstract: In a process for the production of calcium carbide in a shaft furnace, a plasma arc (plasma torch) is generated by the introduction of electric energy with the help of a plasma burner device penetrating the upper cover of the shaft furnace. A counter electrode is provided in the bottom part of the shaft furnace. About the plasma arc or torch, a burden mixture of calcium-oxide and carbon-containing substances is concentrically introduced so as to form a protective mound of solid burden components on the inner wall of the furnace. In order to provide an operationally safe process by using plasma burners, with which both coarse and fine-grain burden components may be employed and with which calcium carbide is obtained in higher yields with an improved utilization of the energy consumed, the burden mixture is used separately as a coarse-grain fraction and as a fine-grain fraction.

  • Patent number: 4591493
Abstract: The present invention provides a process for obtaining solid cyanuric chloride from a cyanuric chloride vapor obtained by the trimerization of cyanogen chloride, wherein the cyanuric chloride vapor is introduced into the upper part of a separation chamber in the center of many individual cold inert gas streams, the solid cyanuric chloride, after emergence thereof from the separation chamber, is separated from the inert gas stream by the action of centrifugal and gravitational force and the inert gas, together with a residual content of very finely crystalline cyanuric chloride, is returned, after cooling thereof, as part streams to the separation chamber.

  • Patent number: 4565297
Abstract: The present invention relates to a high-pressure vessel with inner closure suitable for frequent load changes due to charging and discharging, comprising a forged cylindrical shell with bulbed ends and at least one cover with a frustum-shaped top surface, the cover being centered by supporting elements of the same shape and inclination and being tightened by the prevailing inner pressure. Further features of this high-pressure vessel are the cover bottom sealing which is locally separated from the supporting segments and is radially movable by means of a retaining ring as well as a thin-walled liner with welded-on wearing ring. In view of the frequent opening and closing actions, it is advisable to provide the vessel cover with a small feed-hold cover which is tightened by the prevailing inner pressure and which may be used whenever permitted by the process material characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4565453
Abstract: The invention relates to an agitator for the agitation of liquid media, and more specially for use while completely submerged in the medium. The bearings and the coupling for the agitator shaft are placed in a downwardly opening gastrap, there being a gas cushion between the bearings and the coupling on the one hand and the medium to be agitated on the other hand in order to keep the medium clear of the bearings and the coupling and damaging same. The gas cushion may replenished through a supply duct periodically or continuously.
