    Abstract: An apparatus (100) and method for sorting a batch (200) of electrical contact pieces (11, 11') into two groups. The apparatus is characterized by a tiltable frame (72) concentrically mounting an assembly of a rotatable circular table (74) in spaced relation to a platform (80) having a radial wall (82) of less diameter than the table (74) to define an opening (86) therebetween. The circular table (74) includes an annulus sized to receive contacts. A guide arrangement (46) including a pair of guide members (50, 52) allows the contacts to pass to the rotating annulus, the good contacts rolling between the opening and through central holes in the table and the bad contacts rotating around and being scraped from the annulus.

    Abstract: An electrical contact 47 includes a tubular liner 1 stamped and rolled from a sheet of an electrically conductive material with an annular connector retention recess 13 provided in the external surface thereof between a mating end and a wire receiving end. One or more sleeves 21, 27 are telescoped over the liner 1 with at least one sleeve deformed in place into the annular recess 13. One of the sleeves 21 can be axially aligned preparatory to deforming it into the recess by an internal projection 25 which engages an annular groove 19 on the liner 1. A second sleeve can be axially aligned by lancing it to the liner 1 and by prick-punching the sleeve.

    Abstract: An electrical contact retention bushing (100) which is stamped and formed from flat stock. The bushing is stamped in a shape that includes a base portion (110) with a plurality of fingers (120) extending from the base portion. Each finger (120) includes at least one (and preferably two) retention tine (130). Once formed, the bushing fits within and seats on a shoulder (312) of a wafer (300) within an electrical connector. The bushing retains an electrical contact (500) by engaging a shoulder (510) of the contact with the tines (130) on the fingers (120). The bushing (100) is preferably stamped from a soft metal which is then heat-treated to harden it and formed into the desired shape to save weight and manufacturing and material costs when compared with a machined bushing.

    Abstract: A cylindrical electrical contact assembly that is stamped and rolled into shape from a flat sheet of metal. The electrical contact assembly provides a secure electrical and mechanical connection when crimped to a wire without the need for welding or brazing a seam (31) that results from forming the contact. A plurality of axially arranged slots (32) arranged in the wire receiving end of the contact assembly allow the contact assembly to distort symmetrically when a wire is crimped inside the contact.
