    Abstract: The invention relates to a converter with a container for receiving molten metal and with a measurement device for the optical temperature determination of the molten metal. The converter has an optical waveguide for guiding electromagnetic radiation emitted by the metal to an optical detector for determining the temperature of the metal from an analysis of the electromagnetic radiation. The converter further has a line arranged between the optical detector and the container through which fluid flows for guiding and transporting the optical waveguide. The optical detector is arranged, spaced apart from the container, in a region in which the surrounding temperature is less than 150 DEG C. The invention further relates to a method for the temperature determination of the molten metal in such a converter.
