  • Patent number: 4598667
Abstract: A tube wall for a metallurgical furnace is mainly formed by an array of generally parallel tubes centered on respective tube axes and each having two widened open tube ends one of which projects laterally from the respective tube in one radial direction and the other of which projects laterally from the respective tube in the opposite radial direction. Each tube end laterally engages the tube end of an adjacent tube and the tubes are laterally spaced between their ends. Respective caps each cover two adjacent tube ends and interconnect same so that the interiors of the tubes and caps form a sinuous passage. Finally, respective welds secure the tube ends and caps together hermetically to seal off the passage. Thus appropriate means can circulate a coolant through the array. Such construction is sufficiently rigid to do away with webs laterally interconnecting the tube sections, thereby eliminating the cost of their manufacture and installation.

  • Patent number: 4445220
Abstract: A cover for a metallurgical vessel has a top part formed as a flat, generally circular, and normally horizontal array of tubes having an outer edge and forming a plurality of vertically throughgoing passages. These tubes extend mainly angularly of the center of the array. Respective pluralities of annular tubes at and extending around the passages are connected with each other at the center and with the tubes of the flat array. This top part has a skirt formed as an annular array of generally vertical tubes extending downwardly from the outer edge and connected with the tubes of the flat array. Respective partially circularly annular collars at the passages on the flat array have inwardly directed closely juxtaposed ends. The collars and tubes are connected together as a rigid assembly. A coolant is circulated through the tubes.

  • Patent number: 4425656
Abstract: A cover for a metallurgical vessel comprises an annular outer tubular collar defining a center, a plurality of tubular legs extending inwardly from the collar toward the center, and an annular inner tubular collar fixed to the legs and defining a plurality of throughgoing passages. The inner collar is formed by respective inwardly concave tubular sections defining the passages and respective inwardly convex and tubular elbow sections carried on the legs between the passages and forming an undulating annulus with the inwardly concave sections. A multiplicity of cooling tubes extend between the collars and legs and are connected thereto, and a cooler is provided for circulating a coolant through the tubes, collars, and legs. This system ensures excellent cooling right at the passages, so electrodes extending through these passages need not be provided with their own coolers.

  • Patent number: 4273074
Abstract: A cooling device for use in tubular hot gas conduits which are made up of a plurality of longitudinally arranged side by side abutting pipes includes a plurality of registers arranged in spaced relationship along the length of the pipe and extending into the pipe from one side thereof into closely spaced arrangement in respect to the opposite side. The registers each include a plurality of U-shaped pipes which are interconnected and arranged in the direction of flow and which are connected externally of the hot gas conduit through respective inlet and outlet headers.

  • Patent number: 4258612
Abstract: The present piston pump conveys concrete mixes through, for example, two pump cylinders located in a frame structure so that the cylinder axes extend substantially in parallel to each other. The pump cylinders cooperate with scavenging chambers also installed in said frame structure. To facilitate the assembly and disassembly of said pump cylinders in said frame structure without disassembling the entire frame structure, releasable, form locking connecting elements are operatively arranged between the frame structure and the scavenging chambers whereby the latter may be axially shifted in the frame structure for removing the pump cylinders from their sockets in the frame structure, for example, for maintenance work. Upon insertion of the cylinders into the frame structure, the connecting elements are tightened whereby the pump cylinders are held in position in the frame structure by the connecting means through said scavenging chambers.

  • Patent number: 4244421
Abstract: Process of cooling waste gas bend and apparatus for carrying out same, said process comprising removing concentrated heat at said bend by feeding coolant at an adjustable pressure through cooling channels longitudinally disposed along a selected sector of the cross-section of the bend, the channels being of equal flow cross-section within the entire circuit, said heat being reduced to a level prevailing in the cool sections of the bend portion of the casing (i.e. the cooler sections of the cross-section).

  • Patent number: 4237854
Abstract: A damper construction, comprises, a central hollow tubular pipe pivot portion having an axially extending interior pipe coolant flow passage therethrough and a substantially cylindrical flat plate portion connected to the pipe pivot portion. The pipe pivot portion is mounted for rotation in a bearing formed at diametrically opposite sides of a tubular conduit made up of walls formed by longitudinal pipes arranged side-by-side in a circular pattern and welded together. The bearing includes a hollow portion and it is furnished with coolant which is circulated through the pipes of the conduit.

  • Patent number: 4215713
Abstract: The present control valve is intended to handle highly viscous material such as concrete mixes. For this purpose two valve plates are arranged in a valve housing in such a manner that in one position of the two valve plates relative to each other, one valve plate closes a suction inlet port and opens a pressure outlet port while the other valve plate opens a suction inlet port and closes a pressure outlet port. When the positions of the valve plates change, their respective operation is reversed. The valve plates are supported by drive rods which in turn are supported at both ends of the valve housing in respective slide bearings. One end of each drive rod is operatively connected to a hydraulic drive. The opposite end of each drive rod carries a piston movable in a cylinder, the far end of which is operatively connected to a rinsing liquid container. The rinsing liquid conduits extend through grooves in the slide bearings of each drive rod, whereby these rods are cleaned to protect the rod bearings.
