Abstract: A device for lifting and handling open end drums, especially fiber, or other non-metallic drums includes a support, an inner member and toggle clamps mounted on the support. The toggle clamps cooperate with the inner member to engage the open top of the drum. The drum can then be lifted by engaging and lifting the support.

Abstract: A barrel or drum, preferably of fibre, with metal chimes responsive to longitudinal compressive forces is provided. The compressive forces urge a diagonal flange of the chimes towards the horizontal thereby expanding the outer circumference of the flange of the chime. The outer circumference of the flange of the chime has a looped or tear-drop shaped high strength hollow beam construction so as to increase the stiffness or "stretch resistance" of the flange.

Abstract: A fiber drum having transversely convex sides joined together by rounded corners is provided with a locking rim assembly for releasably securing a cover across the open end thereof. The locking rim assembly is formed from a split rim having a hinge connecting opposed split ends adjacent a rim corner and a locking lever and latch assembly near the diagonally opposite corner for facilitating the application and removal of the locking rim assembly from the container. A top and bottom chime construction is provided with the metal at each corner thereof condensed together uniformly in forming the bead of each chime construction.
