  • Patent number: 4297472
Abstract: The instant invention is directed to a novel method for improving the color stability of thermoplastic polyurethanes and the polyurethanes produced thereby. The invention broadly consists of adding relatively small amounts of a specified hydroxyl group containing additive to the thermoplastic polyurethane reaction mixture. The additive may be added before, or during production of the thermoplastic polyurethane. In general the additive is defined as:(a) having a molecular weight of 400 or less, and(b) containing from 2 to 4 aliphatic hydroxyl groups, with at least 2 of the hydroxyl groups being vicinal, and with the vicinal hydroxyl groups being primary and/or secondary.

  • Patent number: 4250106
Abstract: The instant invention is directed to a novel process for the separation of substantially pure cycloaliphatic diisocyanate reactive (cis-form) stereoisomers from cycloaliphatic diisocyanate non-reactive (trans-form) stereoisomers comprising reacting cycloaliphatic diisocyanates of the formula ##STR1## where R can be hydrogen or an aliphatic hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, at least one of said R's being an aliphatic hydrocarbon having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms and wherein the isocyanato groups are both positioned axially or equatorially in the presence of catalysts selected from the group consisting of lead catalysts, tertiary amines, alkali metal hydroxides and sodium methoxide, thereby producing a cyclic nylon-1 type linear polymer having regularly reoccurring bicyclic structural units of the formula ##STR2## precipitating said cyclic nylon-1 type linear polymers, filtering and washing said precipitated cyclic nylon-1 type linear polymers, then decomposing said precipitated polymer using dis

  • Patent number: 4224431
Abstract: The instant invention is directed to novel heterocyclic nylon-1 linear polymers comprising regularly recurring structural units having the general formula: ##STR1## where R can be hydrogen or an aliphatic hydrocarbon group of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, at least one of said R's being an aliphatic hydrocarbon group of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and wherein said polymers contain from 2 to 100 of said recurring structural units. The instant invention also relates to a novel process for the production of said polymers by reacting certain specified cycloaliphatic diisocyanates in the presence of specified catalysts.

  • Patent number: 4129611
Abstract: Thermoplastic poluyrethane polymers having improved physical properties over a wide temperature range are produced from a physical mixture of thermoplastic polymers of (a) from about 10 to about 90 percent of a soft polymer prepared from an organic isocyanate having an average functionality of about 2 and an organic compound or compounds containing active hydrogen atoms and having an average functionality of about 2 and an average equivalent weight greater than 200 at an NCO to active hydrogen ratio of from about 0.9/1 to about 1.1/1, and (b) from about 90 to 10 percent of a hard polymer prepared by reacting at an NCO to active hydrogen ratio of from about 0.9/1 to about 1.2/1 an organic icocyanate having an average functionality of from about 1.90 to about 2.20 with an organic compound or compounds containing active hydrogen atoms and having an average functionality of about 2 and an average equivalent weight less than 100.
