  • Patent number: 4119014
Abstract: A method for the precision working of gears, particularly by a gear shaving process. The method involves the step of changing the direction of rotation between the workpiece and the tool approximately starting with half of the advance path and the smallest distance between the axes. The optimum condition occurs when the direction of rotation is changed prior to reaching the smallest distance between the axes and the advance is directed at a right angle with respect to the axis of the workpiece or tool. The tool is rotatably supported on a spindle as is the workpiece. The workpiece is driven relative to the tool to advance same relative to the tool. Control devices are provided for controlling the movement of the workpiece relative to the tool. The tool has grooves which extend from the addendum to the dedendum and form cutting edges and the flanks of the teeth have concaved surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4068558
Abstract: A device for deburring or chamfering the axial edges of teeth on a workpiece. The device is composed of a guide disk having a pair of cutting disks on the axially facing sides thereof. The cutting disks each have teeth thereon as does the guide disk. The cutting disks are provided with cutting surfaces which engage the axial edges of the teeth of a workpiece to provide a chamfer therein. Structure is also provided for adjusting the cutting disks relative to the guide disk.

  • Patent number: 4045917
Abstract: Adjusting device for an oscillating workpiece. In one type of gear grinding machine, there is provided means for effecting oscillation of the workpiece simultaneously and in synchronism with reciprocation thereof in order to enable a substantially involute curve to be ground onto the workpiece by a grinding wheel which is fixed excepting for its rotation. In such machine, this oscillation is created by at least one cam fixed to the workpiece spindle together with at least two bands fixed at one of their respective ends to such cam and at the other of their respective ends to a fixed portion of the machine with the bands being wrapped in opposite directions at least partially around such cam. Thus, sidewise reciprocating movement of the workpiece spindle effects oscillation of same in a known manner according to the curve provided on said cams.

  • Patent number: 3943822
Abstract: Gear cutting tool. There is provided a toothed tool for the plunge cut shaving of a gear workpiece having in the tooth surfaces a plurality of grooves whose edges constitute cutting edges, which grooves are spaced apart to define increments on each tool tooth equal to the number of teeth of the workpiece or one whole multiple thereof, and wherein when the tool is in a crossed axes relationship with the workpiece axis said cutting edges of those tool teeth spaced circumferentially a number of teeth equal to the number of teeth on the workpiece, or an integral multiple thereof, define a helix whose portion diametrically opposite the common perpendicular between said axes when viewed along said axis toward said workpiece forms an angle with the workpiece axis which is smaller than the complement of the angle between the tool axis and the workpiece axis.
