  • Patent number: 5855337
Abstract: In a winding machine, the space defined by the support cylinders and the winding rolls is sealed and an overpressure is created in this space to relieve the force with which the winding rolls press against the support cylinders. For the purpose, in the area of the two lateral ends of the support cylinders sealing elements are arranged, which for adjustment to various web widths, are axially displaceable and at the same time can be moved away to an area outside the motion range of guide heads and their mounting. In the sealing position of the sealing elements, a fictional-look connection with the support cylinders is avoided.

  • Patent number: 5518199
Abstract: An elongated support roller centered on and rotatable about a horizontal axis radially engages at least one row of takeup rolls coaxial to a takeup-roll axis parallel to the support-roller axis and including at least one central roll and a pair of end rolls axially flanking the central roll. A relatively wide paper web fed to the support roller passes through a slitter between the web supply and the support roller for slitting the web into a plurality of strips including at least one central strip and a pair of end strips flanking the end strip. The central and end strips pass at least partially around the support roller and are wound on the respective central and end rolls. The support roller is rotated about its axis so that the strips wind at least partially around the support roller and at least the central roll is rotated by engagement with the support roll. Respective end-roll periphery drives radially engage the end rolls for rotating same at a greater peripheral speed than the support roller.

  • Patent number: 5478026
Abstract: For winding webs of material on cores winding machines have two support rollers on which the winding rolls are supported during winding. The web is guided from underneath through the gap between the support cylinders. When the winding rolls are exchanged, for the cutting of the web a cutting knife with a tear-off blade is raised through the gap between the support cylinders up to the cylinder bed. In order to reduce the bearing load of the winding rolls on the support cylinders in the lower wedge between the two support cylinders an air box extending over the work width and having a compressed air supply line is provided, which seals the gap between the support cylinders and has an air exit slot open towards this gap. The tear-off blade of the cutting knife is attached to a support arranged in the air box and can be moved up and down through the air exit slot into the cutting position in the cylinder bed and completely lowered into the air box.

  • Patent number: 4805847
Abstract: A device for threading a web of flexible material through the array of rollers of a machine, e.g. a coiler for the web, utilizes an endless guide wire guided over deflection rolls integrated with those web-guide rolls which are located along the underside of the web. The wire-deflection rolls associated with the web-guide rolls along the upper surface of the web are spaced therefrom and have means cooperating with the kite wire attaching the leading end of the web to the guide wire for deflecting the kite wire off these deflecting rolls so that the deflecting rolls can be located centrally of the web-guide path.

  • Patent number: 4438889
Abstract: A process for decelerating the drive of a web-winding apparatus including a yardage counter for the wound web and a speedometer for the web to be wound, comprising setting a computer for the nominal length of the web which computer, on the basis of the nominal length and of the instantaneous web speed, causes the drive to slow down to a standstill with a preset degree of deceleration; comparing said degree of deceleration with two different curves of which one would result in the nominal length of the web being undershot while the other would result in its being overshot if either curve alone were effective after deceleration has been initiated; and by means of the computer resetting the degree of deceleration on the basis of said two curves and switching from one to the other whenever the instantaneous degree of deceleration indicates the nominal length would be undershot or overshot.

  • Patent number: 4359195
Abstract: An unwinding apparatus for rolls of materials pivotably mounts the rolls with a pivot drive at each end of the roll. The torque of each pivot drive is equalized relative to the machine frame in each direction of rotation by providing for each pivot drive, a resiliently mounted lever which is fixed to the pivot drive and a contact member which is linked to the lever. Four switches are arranged in pairs symmetrically with respect to the contact member and are actuated thereby in response to movement of the lever resulting from torquing by the pivot drives.
