Patent number: 4854118Abstract: The method of, and apparatus for, producing a yarn uses a friction spinning device comprising a perforated first friction spinning drum and a second friction spinning drum which can also be perforated. Two fiber feed passages project to the first friction spinning drum and are each supplied by opening assemblies which individualize or individually separate the fibers. The fibers are transported toward the first friction spinning drum using a feed air stream in the fiber feed passages. This feed air stream is produced by the first friction spinning drum which is maintained under sub-pressure. Advantageously, the fiber double-feed to the friction spinning drum permits supplying two different fiber types to the same yarn end. Also, different inclinations of the fibers at the friction spinning drum can be obtained by different inclinations of the fiber feed passages in order to produce yarns of different character.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1988Date of Patent: August 8, 1989Assignee: Rieter Machine Works, Ltd.Inventors: Emil Briner, Urs Keller, Herbert Stalder

Patent number: 4848079Abstract: In the manufacture of friction spinning drums, in order to be able to select the size of the holes or perforations, on the one hand, to oppose technological fiber loss and jamming of sucked in foreign particles and, on the other hand, to provide airflow advantages, it is proposed to manufacture the friction spinning drum from a thick-walled support and a thin-walled perforated body. As a result, holes or perforations having a sufficiently small cross-section to counteract the above-mentioned fiber loss can be formed in the thin-walled perforated body. On the other hand, holes or perforations having a large enough cross-section to prevent jamming of sucked in foreign particles or other contaminants can be provided in the thick-walled support.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1987Date of Patent: July 18, 1989Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Rieter AGInventors: Herbert Stalder, Urs Keller, Werner Oeggerli, Emil Briner

Patent number: 4821503Abstract: To control the yarn quality of a yarn produced by a textile machine, particularly a false-twist jet spinning apparatus, there is provided at the end of the spinning operation, however, upstream of the pair of withdrawal rolls for the outfeed of the produced yarn, a yarn tension measuring device. Upon falling outside of a predeterminate yarn tension tolerance or tension range the yarn tension measuring device controls operation of the false-twist jet spinning apparatus such that, as required, there is accomplished an appropriate increase or decrease of the yarn tension of the yarn produced by the false-twist jet spinning apparatus. Alteration of the yarn tension can be achieved, for instance, by varying the blowing intensity or energy of the air utilized for the spinning operation as well as by varying the angle at which there is blown in the air used for the spinning operation or by varying the rotational speed of the delivery rolls which deliver the formed yarn or by selected combinations of these measures.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1988Date of Patent: April 18, 1989Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Rieter AGInventors: Herbert Stalder, Peter Egloff, Rolf Binder, Josef Baumgartner

Patent number: 4819421Abstract: To control the yarn quality of a yarn produced by a textile machine, for instance a friction spinning apparatus, there is provided at the end of the friction spinning operation, however, forwardly of the pair of withdrawal rolls for the outfeed of the produced yarn, a yarn tension measuring device. Upon deviating from or falling outside of a predeterminate yarn tension tolerance value or range the yarn tension measuring device controls operation of the friction spinning apparatus such that, as required, there is accomplished an appropriate increase or decrease of the yarn tension of the yarn produced by the friction spinning apparatus. Alteration of the yarn tension can be acheived, for instance, by acting upon the drive for one of the friction spinning elements, to control the rotational speed thereof, or by selectively positioning the suction nozzle of a friction spinning element, or by controlling the size of the nip between coacting friction spinning elements, or selected combinations of such measures.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1988Date of Patent: April 11, 1989Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Rieter AGInventors: Herbert Stalder, Peter Egloff, Rolf Binder, Josef Baumgartner

Patent number: 4696155Abstract: A friction spinning device has a pneumatic fiber transport passage or channel inclined at an angle to a perforated friction spinning element and a yarn formation position of the perforated friction spinning element is located at a spacing from an opening of the pneumatic fiber transport passage or channel. In such a friction spinning device, it is desired to ensure that the fibers located on the perforated friction spinning element are transported towards the yarn formation position neither parallel to nor at right angles to the yarn formation position. For this purpose, the perforations of the perforated friction spinning elements are so arranged that straight lines joining the perforation centers are disposed neither parallel to nor at right angles to the yarn formation position. In this way, fibers transported onto the perforated friction spinning element are laid on such perforated friction spinning element in the direction of the rows of perforations due to the intensity of the transporting air.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1986Date of Patent: September 29, 1987Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Rieter AGInventors: Herbert Stalder, Arthur Wurmli, Josef Baumgartner, Emil Briner

Patent number: 4660371Abstract: In a method and an apparatus for producing a yarn by means of friction spinning drums, a fiber sliver is drawn by a drafting mechanism to a body of fibers and transferred to a first perforated friction spinning drum of such friction spinning drums. At this first perforated friction spinning drum, the fibers are entrained by a suction air stream, produced by a suction passage located in the first perforated friction spinning drum, and are then fed into a converging space formed by and between the friction spinning drums. In this converging space the fibers are twisted into a spun yarn. The spun yarn is withdrawn by withdrawal rollers located near end faces of the friction spinning drums. The suction air stream required for entraining or catching the fibers is limited by walls forming the suction passage. The advantage of this apparatus is that the fibers are mechanically guided over the whole length of their travel path, i.e. from the body of fibers to the twisted yarn.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1985Date of Patent: April 28, 1987Assignee: Rieter Machine Works Ltd.Inventor: Herbert Stalder

Patent number: 4640089Abstract: Fibers delivered in a freely floating state in a fiber transport passage are to be laid in a predetermined disposition on a friction spinning element, such as a friction spinning drum or disc. For this purpose, an opening region of the fiber transport passage is provided with a converging portion in which the airstream is supplementarily accelerated relative to a preceding acceleration. This supplementary acceleration serves to assist in bringing the fibers into the predetermined disposition on the friction spinning drum. The friction spinning device comprises an opening roller which is rotatably supported in a housing. The housing is connected to the fiber transport passage. The opening of the fiber transport passage extends close to a cylindrical surface of the friction spinning drum. The fibers leaving the opening are transported on the friction spinning drum towards a yarn formation position where they are twisted into a yarn which is withdrawn in a selectable withdrawal direction by withdrawal rollers.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 1986Date of Patent: February 3, 1987Assignee: Rieter Machine WorksInventors: Herbert Stalder, Josef Baumgartner, Arthur Wurmli

Patent number: 4628679Abstract: A method and an apparatus for production of yarn by friction spinning is disclosed. The friction spinning method employs a perforated friction spinning drum towards which a fibre feed passage projects. An opening roller, known from the open-end rotor spinning process, feeds separated fibres into the fibre feed passage, which fibres are taken up by a transport air flow in the fibre feed passage. This transport air flow is produced by the perforated friction spinning drum which is subjected to underpressure. Fibres leaving an opening of the fibre feed passage are laid in an inclined disposition on the perforated friction spinning drum and transported in this disposition towards a yarn end forming at a yarn formation position. The spun yarn is withdrawn by a withdrawal roller pair. Advantageously, a second friction spinning drum is provided parallel to the first perforated friction spinning drum to cause the fibre twisting-in process to take place in a more accurately defined manner.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1985Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Assignee: Rieter Machine Works LimitedInventors: Herbert Stalder, Josef Baumgartner

Patent number: 4593521Abstract: In a jet spinning device, in order to enable automatic transport of the yarn from a twist jet to an output roller pair which, for spin-technological reasons, is somewhat spaced from the twist jet, the twist jet is placed in flow communication with a pneumatic guide tube projecting up to the output roller pair. In order to enable automatic threading of the yarn or the like into the output roller pair, the opening or mouth of the guide tube is arranged so close to the output roller pair that the yarn is conveyed into the converging space of the output roller pair and is engaged or entrained thereby.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1983Date of Patent: June 10, 1986Assignee: Rieter Machine Works LimitedInventors: Herbert Stalder, Emil Briner

Patent number: 4565063Abstract: A fiber sliver is drafted to a yarn count in a drafting mechanism and is fed to a false twist unit with a sliver width B1 of 10 to 19 mm. In accordance with the method, by means of the width B1, the fiber sliver leaving the delivery roller pair is divided into a yarn core rotated by the false twist member with a spinning triangle of the width B2 and into edge fibers delivered thereto. The edge fibers are taken up by the rotating yarn core in the suction passage of the false twist unit. The taking-up of the edge fibers occurs in that the front ends of the delivered edge fibers are caught by the rotating yarn core in the region of the narrowest portion of the suction passage and are wound about the yarn core with the same rotational direction as the fiber core but with a substantially larger inclination until the rear end of the edge fibers is wound into the yarn core in the spinning triangle.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1984Date of Patent: January 21, 1986Assignee: Rieter Machine Works Ltd.Inventors: Herbert Stalder, Emil Briner

Patent number: 4520532Abstract: The drafting mechanism comprises an entry roller pair, an intermediate roller pair and a delivery roller pair. An apron hair is mounted such that one of the two aprons projects deeper than the other into the converging space of the pair of delivery rollers, so that the fiber sliver is still diverted, and is thus guided, after the exit or delivery opening of the aprons, on the apron projecting more deeply into the converging space. Further, both aprons are guided sufficiently close to their related delivery roller such that the aprons do not contact these rollers but leave open a minimal air gap, so that only a minimal quantity of the circulating air produced by the rotating delivery rollers can penetrate into the converging space.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1983Date of Patent: June 4, 1985Assignee: Rieter Machine Works LimitedInventors: Herbert Stalder, Emil Briner

Patent number: 4249286Abstract: A fiber sliver opening roll of an open-end spinning device is equipped with needles, wherein the needle shaft of each needle is mounted in a bore. The surface of the opening roll is provided with outer, wide recesses which clear or leave free the needles at all sides. Below the bases of the recesses there are located the aforementioned bores which are smaller than the recesses. Between each needle and the side wall of the related recess there is left free a clearance or space. The depth of each recess is greater than the distance at the recess base between the outer surface of the needle and the inner wall of the recess, and which depth amounts to from 1 to 10 times the aforementioned distance. Owing to the provision of each such recess the related needle extends free on all sides between the roll surface and the bore in such a manner that there are prevented fiber jamming and fiber accumulations on the needles.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 1979Date of Patent: February 10, 1981Assignee: Rieter Machine Works LtdInventor: Herbert Stalder

Patent number: 4058964Abstract: The fiber collecting groove is located at the largest inside diameter of the rotor and is formed by two surfaces which define an angle of aperture .alpha. from 45.degree. to 90.degree.. The bottom of the groove is of a radius of from 0.1 to 0.5 millimeters. Also, the bisector of the angle of aperture .alpha. forms an angle .beta. with the plane of rotation of the groove of a value from 0.degree. to 45.degree. while the yarn take-off direction forms an angle with the plane of rotation of from 0.degree. to 25.degree..Trash accumulations are reduced to a minimum without detrimentally effecting yarn quality.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1976Date of Patent: November 22, 1977Assignee: Rieter Machine Works, Ltd.Inventor: Herbert Stalder

Patent number: 4009562Abstract: An air duct is located opposite a separating opening which opens into the space containing the fiber opening roll so as to receive impurities centrifuged from the opening roll. The separating opening has a wall which forms an acute angle with the opposite wall of the duct so that the impurities can be deflected off the duct wall into the same direction as the air flow in the duct. The duct is narrowed downstream of this point in order to accelerate the air flow and entrained impurities out of the machine via a suction duct. This also stretches out any loose fibers in the flow for rapid removal in order to prevent clogging of the suction duct.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1976Date of Patent: March 1, 1977Assignee: Rieter Machine Works, Ltd.Inventor: Herbert Stalder
