  • Patent number: 4001752
Abstract: A thermostat includes a base plate supporting a switch and an ambient temperature sensing bimetal that actuates the switch. A set-point adjusting cam cooperates with the bimetal. An internally threaded bushing is supported upright on the base plate and is frictionally locked against rotation. The set-point adjusting cam is supported on a threaded shaft which screws into the bushing. The bushing is rotatable for fine calibration of the thermostat, while the threaded shaft is screwed into the bushing through an appropriate number of turns for coarse calibration.

  • Patent number: 4001753
Abstract: A thermostat includes a switch and an ambient temperature sensor that controls the switch. Both the switch and the ambient temperature sensor are supported by a support area of a base plate in a calibrated relationship. The base plate includes a pair of mounting strips each of which is parallel to and offset from the support area of the base plate, connected to the support area by a pair of narrow stress-isolating legs at the ends of the strip. The legs extend from integral stiffening parts of the base plate extending upright from the area of the base plate supporting the switch and the temperature sensor.

  • Patent number: 3988708
Abstract: Limited droop thermostats in which a bimetal tongue extends from an end of the main ambient temperature-sensing bimetal. The tongue responds to heat emitted by the thermostat switch and acts to compensate for the incidental exposure of the main bimetal to switch heat. In the preferred embodiment the projecting end of the compensating tongue is mechanically fixed and one end of the main bimetal is unitary with and carried by the base of the compensating tongue. Certain features of the invention are present in another embodiment in which the main bimetal element has a conventional supporting pivot at one end and the set-point adjusting end of the main bimetal carries the compensating tongue whose projecting end is movable and actuates the thermostat switch.
