  • Patent number: 4309639
Abstract: A system for modulating an incandescent light to avoid total loss of illumination and to achieve improved conspicuity of the light along with subjective enhanced illumination. The modulating unit is electrically connected between a source of electrical power and the light to be modulated and includes a timer switch means operating at a duty cycle of at least 30 percent and a switching frequency of from about 2 to about 10 cycles per second, an amplifier transistor and a driver transistor, electrically connected thereto. Preferably the modulating unit is encapsulated to preclude effects of temperature, humidity and weather.

  • Patent number: 4114071
Abstract: A system is disclosed and claimed herein for modulating the intensity of a light particularly a light used on a vehicle, boat, or electrically connected between a source of power and an incandescent lamp to be modulated and includes a first timer switch means to cut the light on and off according to a periodic rate, a second timer switch means in parallel with the first timer switch means and being operated at a faster switch cycle such that the lamp does not go completely out whereby the filaments remain hot at all times, and a power interrupter means that is positioned between a source of power and the incandescent lamp, and is connected to the first and second timer switch means and operated thereby to modulate intensity of the lamp without complete loss of intensity.

  • Patent number: 4038048
Abstract: A composition is disclosed for lapping or sharpening various cutting edges with primary emphasis on reel type lawnmowers, especially those for cutting golf course greens and other important turf surfaces. The composition is a permanent suspension of a lapping gel and a grinding grit. Contents of the lapping gel include a carboxy vinyl polymer thickener, a neutralizing base, water and a surfactant as essential ingredients, though a concentrated gel may be produced and the water added later. Additionally, other ingredients may be included to improve shelf life, viscosity, stabilize freeze-thaw conditions and the like. Representative lapping compositions according to the present invention comprise 0.18 to 0.75 weight percent carboxy vinyl polymer; a sufficient amount of a base to neutralize the carboxy vinyl polymer and provide a pH in a range of about 7 to 9, at least about 0.08 weight percent surfactant; 1.2 to 2.
