  • Patent number: 5043311
Abstract: A monolithic or honeycomb-catalyst, in particular for purifying the exhaust gases of internal-combustion engines, composed of an inert ceramic or metallic support traversed by parallel flow channels, a layer disposed thereon and composed of catalysis-promoting metal oxide and a catalytically active component supported by the metal oxide, wherein the concentration of the catalysis-promoting metal oxide increases from the periphery to the central axis of the support. Alternatively, the catalysis-promoting metal oxide is essentially equally distributed between central axis and periphery of the support, but concentration of catalytically active component increases from the central axis to the periphery of the support.

  • Patent number: 5013705
Abstract: The invention is a three-way catalyst of active aluminum oxide, palladium, rhodium and cerium dioxide. If Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 is present as bulk carrier, the catalyst contains 5-20% by weight CeO.sub.2 and if Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 is present as a coating on a honeycombed, inert carrier, it contains 25-50% by weight CeO.sub.2.

  • Patent number: 4744967
Abstract: A process is described for the purification of exhaust gases containing oxides of nitrogen and sulfur obtained from combustion installations and industrial production processes by selective catalytic reduction of the nitric oxides with ammonia, subsequent catalytic oxidation of sulfur dioxide with oxygen and conversion into sulfuric acid of the sulfur trioxide obtained.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4515758
Abstract: A catalyst process is disclosed for the reduction of the ignition temperature of Diesel soot filtered out of the exhaust gas of Diesel engines by passing the exhaust gas over a catalytically active substance, which is selected from lithium oxide, copper chloride, vanadium oxide/alkali metal oxide combinations, a vanadate of an alkali metal or of cerium, or a silver or alkali metal perrhenate, preferably of sodium or silver, or mixtures of these substances.

  • Patent number: 4362605
Abstract: An improved lambda sensor is disclosed for the measurement of the oxygen content in the exhaust gas of internal combustion engines in which the sensor element is provided with a gas permeable wrapping coated with a catalyst. The sensor delivers a clear well defined signal in the so-called rich exhaust gas, which makes possible a more precise adjustment of the fuel-air mixture fed to the internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 4316823
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the manufacture of a metallic matrix which is "monolithic", is coated with a catalysis promoting metal oxide and is disposed in a metal casing, in which the matrix is composed of alternately disposed plain and corrugated or folded metal sheets or plates, in which these sheets are stacked in a pile or are wound into a spiral. The method comprises a special resistance welding on the end faces of the matrix and arc welding of the side face of the matrix to the side of the casing, on which the metal oxide is applied.
