  • Patent number: 4807458
Abstract: A roll block for rolling wire to final gauge in a high speed wire mill with a plurality of roll units alternatingly positioned at right angles to each other and behind each other, which are driven by two roll drive shafts running on both sides of the line of rolls parallel to it, includes a dividing gear unit for driving both drive shafts by a common drive motor. The individual roll units are connected to the roll drive shafts by miter wheel, bevel and/or other gear units. The gear ratios in the dividing gear unit on setting predetermined rotational speed ratios of the roll drive shafts lead to a predetermined series of caliber reductions for which the respective roll block is designed. Other materials and/or roll products require, if the gear ratios and rotational speeds are to be maintained constant, correspondingly changed dividing gear units. Such changes are no longer required when the dividing gear unit is a mechanical or hydraulic gearshift which produces different rotational speeds.

  • Patent number: 4411170
Abstract: A wire rolling mill in block form, a so-called wire block, with driving bevel gears which are disposed on a longitudinal shaft and can be selectively coupled by means of clutches with the line shaft and with slow speed supplementary drives for each driving bevel gear, each such supplementary drive becoming operational as the associated driving bevel gear is disengaged, so that shut-down drive lines for inoperative rolls are kept in rotating motion. The supplementary drives are engaged by means of axially slideable driving wheels, more particularly driving wheels of bevel gear construction, which mesh with the driving bevel gears in driving connection only when the associated clutch is disengaged.

  • Patent number: 4114416
Abstract: Apparatus for clamping an overhung rolling disc on a drive shaft by compressive stress between plane parallel surfaces, whereby a hydraulically expansible tie-rod is inserted in the hollow drive shaft for producing the compressive stress, the tightening nut of which tie-rod is located opposite the outer end face of the rolling disc for transmitting the compressive force, wherein the tightening nut is seated on a bayonet ring provided with an external screw-thread, the bayonet ring with the tightening nut is supported by a bayonet nut, which is in turn screwed on a threaded end of the tie-rod and a taper sleeve is inserted between the rolling disc and drive shaft, the free outer end face of which taper sleeve is located opposite an end face of the bayonet ring and is constructed for the attachment of extraction claws.
