Patent number: 5683008Abstract: A child-protected thermoplastic container having a generally square shape including a closure having horizontal sealing surfaces complimentary to sealing surfaces on the top of parallel container sides, and including tapered guide surfaces on the parallel sides to guide the closure from back to front for closing while forcing a tight seal on the sealing surfaces. A flared wedge on a flexible projecting nub protrudes from the closure through an aperture in a rib of the container body, preventing backward movement of the closure unless the wedge is depressed. The front of the closure is provided with a lock bar having a handle which snaps closed to effectuate a tight seal on the front, which must be opened before the closure will slide back to open the container.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1996Date of Patent: November 4, 1997Inventor: Herbert W. Galer

Patent number: 4777004Abstract: Apparatus and method are described for injection molding of thermoplastic paint cans substantially similar in size and design to the conventional steel one-gallon paint can. The apparatus comprises a cavity element defining the exterior of the container body and a core mold element including a peripheral lip protruding into the interior of the can body at a point below the upper terminus of the top circumference of the container body, thus providing a peripheral upwardly projecting edge. The cavity element includes a plurality of cam elements which move cooperatively on separation of the core and cavity elements. The cam elements grip the ridge of the container and expand it outwardly sufficiently to permit the core element of the mold to be removed from the container without hindrance from the inwardly protruding lip.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1985Date of Patent: October 11, 1988Inventor: Herbert W. Galer

Patent number: 4753362Abstract: A thermoplastic blow-molded drum employs, in place of the conventional flat circular top, or a slightly spherical or radially rounded top, a top having a cylindrical surface over most of its area. The cylindrical surface is of a relatively wide radius and based on an axis perpendicular to the drum; it permits the trouble-free use of paper labels and the like which will conform to the cylindrical surface, while also strengthening the corners of the drum chime at the ends of the cylindrical surface by permitting the parison to conform to a surface intersection having less area than that of the sharp corners of the prior art, resulting in a greater thickness and more strength.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1987Date of Patent: June 28, 1988Assignee: Container Products, Inc.Inventor: Herbert W. Galer
-
Patent number: 4667843Abstract: A thermoplastic container and lid assembly comprising a vertical circular flange on the container top and a complementarily dimensioned channel on the lid for receiving it, the flange being tapered from relatively narrow base to a wide terminus, and the channel having a relatively narrow opening and a wide terminus.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1986Date of Patent: May 26, 1987Inventor: Herbert W. Galer

Patent number: 4625890Abstract: A safety closure for an open head container, having an improved cap assembly comprising a plastic cap and locking ring, the plastic cap including a central web, a sealing ring and a plurality of lugs around it having inwardly protruding flanges to engage the lower portion of a chime on the container, the locking ring extending over the sealing ring and engaging a lower peripheral surface of the sealing ring.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1985Date of Patent: December 2, 1986Inventor: Herbert W. Galer
-
Patent number: 4619373Abstract: An improved plastic container assembly is disclosed, for use such as a paint can, which comprises a bottom container portion, a ring portion which fits within the upper rim of the bottom container portion, and a lid which seals within said ring portion to close the container. The ring portion of the invention interlocks within the inner circumference of the bottom container portion to form a tight fit and a good seal to retain the contents of the container.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1985Date of Patent: October 28, 1986Inventor: Herbert W. Galer
-
Patent number: 4386701Abstract: Blow molded, tight head plastic containers are provided with interlocking means in the form of a groove on the top section of the container, a tongue on the bottom section of the container and a peripheral rim about the top section of the container. When similar containers are stacked upon one another, this construction permits the stack to remain vertically aligned even when it is tilted to angles of 45.degree. to the vertical.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1977Date of Patent: June 7, 1983Assignee: United States Steel CorporationInventor: Herbert W. Galer
-
Patent number: 4298132Abstract: This invention concerns plastic lids and pails having improved child-proof locking features. Intermittently placed teeth-like elements located on the pail and lid interlock to prevent the easy opening of the assembled pail and lid.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1980Date of Patent: November 3, 1981Assignee: United States Steel CorporationInventor: Herbert W. Galer

Patent number: 4221286Abstract: Apparatus for restricting the movement of a pail bail facilities pail finishing processes, such as labeling. A blocking element for engagement with the pail bail intersects the locus of movement of the bail, so that its movement relative to the pail is restricted during pail manipulation.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1978Date of Patent: September 9, 1980Assignee: United States Steel CorporationInventors: Herbert W. Galer, Charles M. Menefee

Patent number: 4212410Abstract: A gravity-operated latch permits a secure closure for a cover on a loaded poultry shipping crate. The latch flips open, permitting the cover to open, in a sequence coinciding with the sequence of efficient orientation of the crate as the crate is turned and dumped. At the conclusion of the full 360.degree. dumping operation, the latch is relocked and the crate is ready for reshipment.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 1979Date of Patent: July 15, 1980Assignee: United States Steel CorporationInventor: Herbert W. Galer

Patent number: 4210179Abstract: A pipe-thread protector which includes a molded plastic drum-shaped body and a solid metal band encircling the body. The body has a corrugated outer circumferential wall, a concentric inner wall spaced from the outer wall, and a corrugated web joining the two walls at one end. An end wall is joined to the inner wall. The other end of the outer wall carries an integral ring. The inside of the outer wall has lengthwise ribs which have internal screw threads. The space between the walls forms an annular pocket for receiving the end portion of a pipe, while the internal threads engage the pipe threads and the ring snugly receives the pipe beyond the threads.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1978Date of Patent: July 1, 1980Assignee: United States Steel CorporationInventor: Herbert W. Galer

Patent number: 4059249Abstract: A core for the injection molding of plastic articles having internal threads, provides a means for readily releasing the article from the mold. The core has a non-rotating, water-cooled center section to hold the molded article against rotary motion and a driven, water-cooled ring section for molding threads in the article. Rotation of the ring section coupled with the holding action of the stationary center section releases the molded thread and ejects the article from the core by the axial force of the thread of the core bearing against the molded thread of the article.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1976Date of Patent: November 22, 1977Assignee: United States Steel CorporationInventor: Herbert W.
