  • Patent number: 10709140
Abstract: The methods, kits, and products for controlling a target insect population are disclosed in which a non-host plant containing a toxin and a chemical attractant known to attract the target insect is treated with chemical attractant from a plant of interest. The chemical attractant induces the target insect to lay eggs on the non-host plant. The resulting offspring die of starvation from refusing to feed on the non-host plant. The non-host plant and plant of interest contain at least one common chemical. The methods, kits, and products for controlling a target insect population using an extract from a non-host plant are also disclosed. The non-host plant extract is applied to the plant of interest, and when ingested or applied directly to the target insect, kills the target insect or causes it to develop with deformities.

  • Patent number: 10570110
Abstract: Improved processes for the extraction of quassinoids such as quassin and neoquassin from natural substances containing these compounds are described. The process uses compounds that are Generally Recognized As Safe by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. In a first embodiment, the process includes a sonication method using water and no organic solvent. The process is highly efficient and comprises fewer steps than other processes known in the art. In a second embodiment, a method of extracting quassinoids from natural substance comprising bark of a plant of the plant family Simaroubaceae is also disclosed. In a third embodiment, indirect sonication of quassinoids is described using a mixture of polar and non-polar organic solvents.

  • Patent number: 10362781
Abstract: Methods of controlling the feeding and/or breeding behavior of a target insect are disclosed in which a host plant is provided a substantial distance from a plant of interest, chemical attractant that induces the target insect to lay eggs on the host plant is applied to the host plant, application of the chemical attractant to the host plant is repeated as required to induce residual target-insect populations to lay eggs on the host plant, and wherein the behavior is controlled when a substantial number of offspring belonging to subsequent generations themselves mature and display a preference for laying eggs on the same type of host plant on which they were reared without further application of the chemical attractant is provided. Also disclosed are methods of deterring target insect feeding and breeding on plants of interest by applying toxic plant extract to the plants of interest.

  • Patent number: 9495262
Abstract: Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for migrating high activity volumes in a mirror copy relationship to lower activity volume groups. A determination is made of usage rates of multiple volume groups, wherein each volume group is comprised of source volumes at a primary site whose data is copied to volumes at a secondary site. A first selected volume group and a second selected volume group are selected based on the determined usage rates of the volume groups. A first volume in the first selected volume group is migrated to a second volume in the second selected volume group. Updates to the first volume, received while migrating the first volume to the second volume, are copied to a mirror first volume mirroring the first volume at the secondary site.

  • Publication number: 20130013566
Abstract: A method for dynamically synchronizing storage groups in a data replication environment is disclosed. In one embodiment, such a method includes detecting the addition of a volume to a storage group of a primary storage system. The method then automatically performs the following in response to detecting the addition of the volume: (1) adds a corresponding volume to a corresponding storage group on a secondary storage system; (2) creates a mirroring relationship between the volume added to the primary storage system and the volume added to the secondary storage system; and (3) adds the mirroring relationship to a mirroring session established between the storage groups on the primary and secondary storage systems. A corresponding system and computer program product are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20120030175
Abstract: A method for reducing the data analysis overhead on a production system is disclosed herein. In one embodiment, such a method includes replicating production data from a primary site to a remote site. A control data set containing information for directing analysis of the production data is generated at the primary site and replicated to the remote site. At the remote site, the method includes analyzing the production data as directed by the control data set by making use of time on a CPU located at the remote site. Analysis may involve executing a diagnostic routine and/or generating a log file documenting the results of the analysis. A corresponding apparatus, system, and computer program product are also disclosed and claimed herein.
