Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for processing and rewinding a web made of easily stretchably deformable plastic film. The web is drawn from a supply roll assembly by a series of synchronously, positively driven draw and transfer rolls and directly delivered to a rewind spindle. The rewind spindle is positively driven at a speed greater than the speed imparted to the web by the draw and transfer rolls. However, the rewind spindle is in peripheral contact with a transfer drum which is the last of the series of draw and transfer rolls so that the processed web is immediately transferred from the transfer drum to the rewind spindle. The transfer drum exerts a drag on the rewind spindle to control and match the speed of the rewind spindle to the speed of the moving web.

Abstract: A binding machine for binding together a stack of individual bags to form a pad of bags by connecting the bags together at corresponding selvage portions adjacent the mouths of the bags, comprising a reciprocable side sealing means and, optionally, a reciprocable rear edge sealing means, a conveyor for the bags that is optionally movable either from front to rear of the machine or laterally of the machine, stop means for holding the stack of bags in a predetermined position for binding, and means for timing the reciprocable sealing means and the stop means to permit continuous but intermittant progression of a plurality of stacks of bags through the sealing cycle.

Abstract: A pad of plastic bags comprising a plurality of bag units stacked upon one another, each unit comprising two open-mouthed pockets separated by a selvage portion between the open mouths, the open mouth of one pocket being in the reverse plane from the open mouth of the other pocket whereby when the unit is folded over on the selvage portion the open mouths of both pockets face in the same direction, and transverse score lines in the selvage portion adjacent each open mouth to permit tearing away of each pocket in the unit from the selvage portion, the selvage portions of all the units being connected to form a base portion.

Abstract: A plastic bag unit comprising a box having a removable flap covering an aperture in the front wall of the box, and a pad of bags positioned within the box, the pad comprising an upper base portion from which depends a stack of bag-forming pockets having open mouths, the pockets being connected to the base portion by score lines, and the open mouths facing the aperture; the base portion having connections at each side acting as anchoring counterforces against forward pull of individual pockets through the aperture, and the wall portion framing the aperture acting to exert additional counterforce against the forward pull, whereby the resulting pockets are simultaneously removed from the base portion, extracted from the box and fully opened by a simple forward pull.

Abstract: A pad of plastic open-mouthed pockets overlying each other and separably connected by a common base portion, the base portion being formed of selvage portions extending from the open mouth of the pockets and being secured together at the sides thereof and at spaced connections at the free edges thereof, and a support hanger secured to the base portion and having an extension extending beyond the base portion in a position to be secured to a surface, the pockets being individually separable from said base portion to form individual bags.

Abstract: A binding machine for binding together a stack of individual bags to form a pad by connecting the bags together at the overlapping selvage portions thereof adjacent their mouths, comprising a vertically movable actuating means having a cutting means and side sealing means operatively connected thereto, whereby as the actuating means moves toward a platform adapted to support a stack of bags, the cutting means and the side sealing means move together to both perforate and form side seals at the overlapping selvage portions of the bags, the machine also being provided with end sealing means that are optionally operated in conjunction with the vertically movable actuating means to form end seals on the selvage portions of the stack of bags.

Abstract: A pad of plastic units comprising a plurality of bag pockets overlying each other in layers, each pocket having an open mouth and an extension of its rear wall, there being a score line in the extension defining the edge of the rear wall of the bag when the bag is severed from the pad. The extensions of all the pockets being secured together to form a base portion for the pad, and welds or similar connections at the side of the base portion which form side anchors to provide a counterforce when a forward pull is exerted at the mouth of an individual pocket, whereby the bag is completely opened simultaneously with its being severed from the pad, and a handle constituted by a slit or similar device in the base portion to permit entry of the fingers of a hand or any other desired support means which will act to support the pad while an individual bag is severed therefrom.

Abstract: A pad of plastic bags comprising a plurality of bag units, one above the other, each unit comprising a pair of oppositely disposed open-mouthed pockets connected to a common spacer portion by score lines or the like at the mouth ends of the pockets, each pocket having a lip at its mouth end spaced from the respective score line, the multiple bag units being connected to each other at the spacer portions by a weld or other connection at each side of the spacer portions, the connected spacer portions forming a base for all the bag units in the pad, the side welds acting as an anchor means to resist the forward pull on the lip as a bag is torn away by grasping the lip and pulling forward, whereby the bag is substantially fully opened and severed from the base at the same time.
