  • Patent number: 4501044
Abstract: Apparatus for cleaning the so-called anode bars of electrodes re-cycled for use in electrolytic smelting comprises a frame with upstanding columns supporting a raisable and lowerable carriage. A table is displaceably supported between the columns on the carriage and a pair of depending swinging arms beneath the table support rotatable cleaning brushes which selectively engage on a bar to be cleaned. The brushes rotate inside extractor cowls from which air is sucked to withdraw dust and particles removed during cleaning. The cowls are urged with springs against the bar to be cleaned independently of the brushes to maintain the cowls in a set position regardless of any wear suffered by the brushes.

  • Patent number: 4480381
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for aligning and locating the nipples of an anode rod with the blind bores formed in one surface of an anode block. The apparatus includes a support table mounted for vertical movement on a stand. Alignment means are mounted on the stand above the support table. The alignment means is constituted by a plurality of alignment elements, each of which has the shape of a segment of a funnel. In use, the narrow ends of the alignment elements are introduced into respective bores in the anode block as the support table is moved upwardly. As the support table moves further upwards, carrying the alignment elements therewith, at least some of the nipples of the anode rod engage within the wider ends of the alignment elements, thereby directing the nipples into the bores in the anode block.

  • Patent number: 4091616
Abstract: A catalytic device takes the form of a manifold connectible to the engine block of an internal combustion engine to receive the exhaust gases. The manifold has an outer jacket for receiving coolant, e.g., water, and within this jacket is provided a chamber containing a catalyst cartridge serving to treat the exhaust gases to remove carbon monoxide therefrom. The cartridge is replaceable and has a pipe at one end which forms an exhaust pipe and a tubular projection into which the gases are passed. The cartridge is spaced from the inner surface of the chamber wall and is thermally insulated therefrom.
