  • Patent number: 5073162
Abstract: To produce a container with a rounded edge, the container blank is scored with several substantially parallel, laterally spaced score lines adjacent the intended location of the rounded edge. When the blank is bent, a portion of the total deflection is absorbed by each score line so that the resulting container edge is a gradual curve rather than a single sharp crease. The ends of each scored region may be left unscored to further smooth the ends of the rounded container edge. Methods and apparatus for forming the above-described blank are disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 28, 1990
Date of Patent: December 17, 1991
    Assignee: Philip Morris Incorporated
Inventors: Christopher J. Campbell, Linda S. Latif, Herman Graboyes

  • Patent number: 4537124
Abstract: An embosser combined with a steel rule die for embossing sheets of stock where the embosser includes an insert positioned within an opening formed in the steel rule die. Threaded bores are formed in the steel rule die and extended into its opening. Screws are threaded into the threaded bores and contact the embosser insert such that longitudinal movement of the screw in the bore is translated into lateral movement of the insert for adjustable registration of the embosser with the print on a sheet of stock.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 30, 1984
Date of Patent: August 27, 1985
Assignee: Atlas Steel Rule Die, Inc.
    Inventor: Herman A. Graboyes
  • Patent number: 4397095
Abstract: A die and accommodating counter assembly for scoring and cutting sheet material in which cooperating bushing and pin registration and transfer locking units are utilized to maintain the alignment of the die and the counterplate when being placed within a press.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 9, 1981
Date of Patent: August 9, 1983
Assignee: Atlas Steel Rule Die, Inc.
    Inventor: Herman A. Graboyes
  • Patent number: 4341008
Abstract: A method for registering and aligning a steel rule die and counterplate. The die and counterplate each have registration holes into which a semi-permanent pin is inserted to hold the die and counterplate in alignment during positioning within a reciprocating cutter.
    Type: Grant

Inventors: Herman A. Graboyes, Frank D. Helman
  • Patent number: 4249432
Abstract: A die having a scoring rule and an accommodating counter plate for use in paper or similar soft materials scoring operations in which alignment between the scoring rule and the score in the counter plate is accommodated by adjustably positioning a scored counter member for receiving the scoring rule within a slot formed in the counter plate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 30, 1979
Date of Patent: February 10, 1981
Inventors: Herman A. Graboyes, Simon R. Miller, Jr.
  • Patent number: RE28747
Abstract: A method and apparatus for engraving characters by the use of numerically controlled machine tools. The characters are engraved by moving a first machine tool about the outline of the desired character. Where the character has inside corners, a second numerically controlled machine tool is moved about the outline at the inside corner at a plurality of depths to reduce the radius of the curvature at the inside corner.
