  • Patent number: 6516603
Abstract: A gas turbine engine is energized by a controlled supply of fuel thereto for operation under regulated conditions increasing efficiency and power output per unit mass of air under pressurized flow from a compressor to which the air is supplied with water droplets at a ratio predetermined to reduce operational temperature within the turbine engine. Operational conditions are also regulated by angular adjustment of the stator blades in the turbine stages of the gas turbine engine through which the pressurized flow of combustion products is conducted, so as to maintain a maximum inlet temperature arranged to maximize part-load efficiency.

  • Patent number: 5329758
Abstract: A steam-augmented gas turbine engine system generally includes a compressor 3), first and second combustors (4a, 4b), a compressor turbine (6) and a power turbine (7). A heat exchanging system (8b) removes heat from an exhaust product from the power turbine (7) and preheats water which has been desalinated by a water purification system (12). The desalinated water is provided to the first combustor (4a), as a predetermined quantity of water-steam mass, along with fuel and compressed air, and is used to efficiently power the turbine system. In one embodiment, a two-boiler system (8b) is employed in which first and second steam outputs are provided to first and second combustors (4a, 4b) such that a mass flow of the compressor turbine (6) is substantially constant from a Cheng point to a stoichiometric point of a predetermined power profile. This constancy of mass flow ensures that the gas generator operates on design from the Cheng point to the stoichiometric combustion point.

  • Patent number: 4509324
Abstract: A shipboard engine system and method of operating includes two compressors with an intercooler, a compressor turbine, a power turbine, a combustor for combining fuel, air and water. Heat exchangers remove heat from the exhaust and use it to preheat the water to the combustor. Spray condensers recover water from the exhaust for reuse. Water purification apparatus is used to remove acid from the water. The system is designed for stoichiometric operation at full load and run with increased efficiency at part load to give a total lower fuel consumption.

  • Patent number: 3980498
Abstract: An electrochemical cell exhibiting high specific power and specific energy n combination which comprises an aluminum-lithium alloy anode with an aqueous electrolyte. The electrolyte may be the readily available seawater circulated through the cell at a predetermined flowrate to obtain maximum controlled electrical energy output.
