Abstract: A night vision compatible display employing a liquid crystal display, and an infrared attenuating filter having characteristics which permit a high degree of infrared attenuation while transmitting substantial amounts of visible light, in combination with an incandescent source and reflector for backlighting a liquid crystal display through the infrared filter so that the liquid crystal provides a fully readable, high contrast display when sufficeintly trans-illuminated through the filter to produce light having a spectral content highly compatible with direct vision and the use of infrared sensitive GEN III night vision goggles and other night vision equipment in a night vision environment.

Abstract: Use of a special blue or blue-green optical filter in a single or double layer dichroic liquid crystal display which is back lit by dimmable incandescent lights provides for easily read, high contrast presentation of information.

Abstract: A front lighted display for an instrument dial face and pointer, including in combination with such dial face and pointer and according to one embodiment, a plurality of light emitting diodes (LED) positioned around the inner periphery of an LED mounting and directing light rays onto the dial face, a conically shaped reflector positioned to reflect light from the LEDs onto the dial face, a center disc reflector having an LED mounted thereon to enhance illumination of the pointer hub and center area of the dial face presentation, and an LED baffle ring preventing direct viewing of the diodes, and which can have a light reflecting inner surface to redirect light from the LEDs onto the surface of the dial face.

Abstract: A dial display of transilluminated instruments includes a negative or color transparent film of the pointer and dial face of an instrument, in contact with a diffuser element such as a Mylar (polyester) film, the negative film and diffuser being laminated to a high light transmission element such as an acrylic material to provide a rigid concentric pointer drum and dial face assembly, and light emitting diodes and reflector means mounted for back lighting the transparent negative film. Light from the light emitting diodes (LED) is reflected between the reflector assembly and diffuser surface, and produces a uniformly lighted dial and pointer presentation. The color of the pointer and dial face indicia is formed directly by the color of the diffuser material at the exposed areas on the developed negative film.
