  • Patent number: 4960088
Abstract: A low fuel shut-off system for a Diesel engine which includes a fuel supply circuit comprising a main fuel tank, a transfer pump, a filter array, an injection pump, injection nozzles, and an auxiliary fuel tank in the fuel circuit between the transfer pump and the injection pump. A level sensor in the auxiliary fuel tank provides a signal when the fuel level drops below a predetermined point, with the signal being used by associated electrical control to shut down the engine while a supply of fuel still remains in the fuel supply circuit between the auxiliary tank and the injection pump, and in the auxiliary tank, which is sufficient to start the engine without priming.

  • Patent number: 4922727
Abstract: An air delivery system for a transport refrigeration unit having a dual speed prime mover, a compressor, a condenser, an evaporator, and first and second air delivery blowers for the condenser and evaporator, respectively. The speed of the first blower is directly proportional to the speed of the prime mover and the second blower is driven by an adjustable speed arrangement. The adjustable speed arrangement includes an electric clutch and a one-way clutch. The electric clutch, when energized, selects a predetermined speed of the evaporator blower, which is greater than the speed of the condenser blower, and when the electric clutch is deenergized the evaporator blower is driven at the same speed as the condenser blower, via the one-way clutch.

  • Patent number: 4878360
Abstract: An air delivery system for a transport refrigeration unit having a dual speed prime mover, a compressor, a condenser, an evaporator, and first and second air delivery blowers for the condenser and evaporator, respectively. The first blower is directly driven by the prime mover and the second blower is driven by an adjustable speed arrangement. The adjustable speed arrangement includes a fixed pulley connected to the second blower, a pulley having a variable, selectable pitch diameter which is biased towards its maximum pitch diameter, an idler pulley, a belt linking the fixed, variable and idler pulleys, and an actuator for moving the idler pulley to select desired pitch diameters of the variable pulley via tension in the linking belt which opposes the bias associated with the variable pulley.

  • Patent number: 4770002
Abstract: A transport refrigeration system including a compressor, a prime mover for the compressor, a condenser, and an evaporator blower assembly. The evaporator blower assembly includes a shaft driven by the prime mover, a first blower fixed to the driven shaft, a second blower journaled for rotation about the driven shaft, and a clutch for coupling and decoupling the first and second blowers. The volume of air moved through the evaporator and into the conditioned space or cargo area is thus selectable based upon need of the transport refrigeration system, without the necessity of changing the speed of the prime mover. The resulting savings in power realized when only one blower is being driven is automatically translated into fuel savings and/or increased cooling capacity.

  • Patent number: 4635671
Abstract: A flow and pressure control valve system is provided in which a control valve body 18 has a bore 22 therein with a slidable piston 24, the piston being biased to the left by spring 32 to a stop 38, with ports 16 and 26 opening to the bore 22 in the pressure end portion of the bore, the port 16 being connected to a positive displacement pump 28 and the port 26 connected to a reservoir 30 through a two-way valve, a third port 40 being connected to an actuatable device 10 and a fourth port 42 being connected to the reservoir 30 and functioning as a pressure regulator port after the two-way valve 28 is closed, and the piston 24 is retracted to the right as in FIG. 2 so that the device 10 is first actuated, and the pressure is then regulated by the relation of the piston 24 to the pressure regulator port 42.

  • Patent number: 4583377
Abstract: A secondary chamber 40, 64 is provided in a refrigerant suction accumulator 24 to receive liquid refrigerant through return tube 22 from a refrigerant evaporator 20 and is provided with a drip hole 50, 72, to limit the level of refrigerant buildup in the sump 52 under operating conditions of a refrigeration unit in which large quantities of liquid refrigerant are returned to the accumulator.

  • Patent number: 4182134
Abstract: A component and structural arrangement of a transport refrigeration unit for the front wall of a trailer and which utilizes a generally planar frame attached to the front wall to provide a support arrangement in which the load of the components is transferred back to the planar frame, and which includes an airflow plenum through which trailer air is passed for conditioning which is disposed relative to the plane of the frame with a material part of the front-to-rear depth of the plenum being forwardly of the plane to significantly reduce the projection of the plenum into the trailer cargo space.
