  • Patent number: 6439125
Abstract: The invention relates to a bullet having a tapered nose and a cylindrical base. The base is provided with an annular groove having a diameter less than the bore diameter of the barrel of the gun from which it is fired to reduce the force required to move the bullet through the barrel to increase the muzzle velocity and kinetic energy of the bullet.

  • Patent number: 5641937
Abstract: A soft nose, bonded lead core bullet for rifles and pistols and a method of making the bullets is disclosed. The bullets have a Jacket of copper based material with a solid base portion and an upper nose portion having a cavity in which the lead core is located and bonded to the walls of the cavity. The walls of the cavity decrease in width away from the base and curves inwardly to form an ogive shape. The jacket increases in hardness and strength from the upper end of the cylindrical wall to the base of the bullet. The cylindrical wall has an outer lip between 0.012 and 0.020 inches wide and the ratio of the lip thickness to the bottom cavity wall thickness is about 0.18-0.20 for rifle bullets and about 0.3-0.4 for pistol bullets.

  • Patent number: 4879953
Abstract: A bullet is disclosed. The bullet comprises an outer jacket of cooper base material and an inner core of lead. The jacket includes a base portion and an ogive shaped cylindrical portion. The base portion has a higher yield point than the cylindrical portion so that the base portion will remain intact after impact with a game animal while the cylindrical section splits longitudinally and expands as the bullet travels into the target with a minimum in weight reduction.

The base portion has a higher yield point than the cylindrical portion so that the base portion will remain intact after impact with a game animal while the cylindrical section splits longitudinally and expands as the bullet travels into the target with a minimum in weight reduction. The method of making the bullet includes work hardening the base portion more than the cylindrical portion to obtain the higher yield strength.

  • Patent number: 4750427
Abstract: A bullet is disclosed that includes a generally cylindrical outer jacket of copper base material having an inner cavity that is closed at one end to provide a solid nose for the bullet. The nose has a minimum longitudinal thickness that is equal to or greater than about 10% of the length of the bullet and a flat face symmetrically located with respect to and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bullet. The face covers at least thirty-five percent of the cross-sectional area of the bullet. The inner cavity of the outer jacket is filled with lead.

  • Patent number: 4309618
Abstract: A method and apparatus are shown for precision distance or displacement measurement using a light source and a detector. A light emitting diode or laser are typical sources, and a photodiode or phototransistor are typical detectors. Light from the source is directed towards the detector directly, or reflected onto the detector by a reflective surface. By tilting the axis of the light source and detector, high sensitivity is possible. The effect of the tilted axes may be obtained by the use of two reflective surfaces. Typical resolution is on the order of 5 microinches over a range of 50,000 microinches (i.e., one part in 10.sup.4) using simple associated electronics, with higher resolution possible.
