  • Patent number: 5634504
Abstract: A venting and flow control closure device includes a disc having a peripheral sealing area attachable to a rim which encircles a dispensing opening of a liquid container and a repeating vented fracture pattern formed on the disc and extending from one edge to an opposite edge of the sealing area of the disc. The disc is made substantially of a metal foil material. The repeating fracture pattern is formed of a plurality of alternating vents and rupturable bridges. Each vent has a length substantially greater than the length of each bridge. The repeating fracture pattern has a central portion zig-zag in shape with peaks and valleys terminating in a plurality of round holes, and a pair of opposite side portions extending outwardly from the round holes of the central portion in substantially perpendicular relation to an imaginary line dividing the zig-zag pattern of the central portion into halves with all of the peaks in one half and all of the valleys in the other half.
