Abstract: A method wherein contents of DVDs may be restricted based upon purchased certificates is provided. The certificates allow for secured information on playback. Specifically, whenever a DVD is to be played, a certificate is consulted to determine whether the content of the DVD should be played with or without commercial interruptions. If the certificates provide for commercial interruptions, then commercials can be obtained from an online service that renders commercials on demand, or from the DVD itself. In such a case, the content of the DVD may be interspersed with commercials.

Abstract: A method, system, and program for telephony based remote location monitoring are provided. A telephone network receives the caller request to listen only to a remote location telephony device. The telephone network allocates a listen only channel between the caller telephony device and the remote location telephony device. The telephone network activates a microphone at the remote location telephony device via the listen only channel. Then, audio detected at the microphone is streamed via the listen only channel to the caller telephony device, such that the telephone network enables a caller to monitor a remote location through the remote location telephony device with minimized allocation of telephone network resources.

Abstract: A method and system for hibernating the state of executing applications on a removable module and resuming the applications at later time using the saved applications' state. After inserting the removable module into a computer system, the applications' state information stored on the removable module is loaded. The application state information may include an application identifier, a file identifier of a file being accessed by the application, and user preferences related to the application. One or more software applications are loaded from a nonvolatile storage device accessible by the computer system to a memory accessible by the computer system, and the loaded applications are executed. The state of each of the executed software applications is set based upon the corresponding application state information.

Abstract: A method and system for storing a running image of an operating system on a removable operating system module. The module is first inserted into a first computer system. The operating system is installed on the first computer, an execution of the operating system is initiated, and a running image of the operating system is saved to the nonvolatile memory unit of the removable module. The removable module is removed from the first computer system and inserted into the second computer system where the running image of the operating system is loaded to a second memory accessible by the one or more processors included in the second computer system. The operating system is then executed by the processors. A user can update the operating system by connecting to a manufacturer's website and downloading an update or by sending the removable operating system module to the manufacturer for an update.

Abstract: A method and system for creating a quiet zone. In an exemplary embodiment, the method includes receiving a request for the creation of the quiet zone and generating a quiet time data packet. The quiet time data packet may be generated by a source system and includes data specifying the start and duration of the quiet time. The quiet time data packet is transmitted from the source system to at least one destination system. Upon receipt of the quiet time data broadcast, the at least one destination system implements a quiet time for the specified duration within the destination system environment.

Abstract: Methods 300 and systems 100 for evaluating proposed food purchases which vary from a pre-planned diet are provided. A nutrition-related scheme, the pre-planned diet, is developed on the basis of achieving a primary goal such as increasing the intake of a particular nutrient or losing a certain amount of weight. The nutrition-related scheme, which may be stored in a memory 103 of a computer 120, includes a list of approved food items. When a user proposes to substitute a food item for an approved food item a version of the program stored on a PDA 120 determines whether the substituted item negatively interacts with any of the approved diet items, for example, affecting the user's ability to metabolize a nutrient in the approved item.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for delivering personalized content from a content provider system to a satellite communication receiver user. The user selects content from the content provider system and specifies Internet or satellite delivery. If the user specifies Internet delivery, then the content provider system transmits the selected content to the user via the Internet. However, if the user specifies satellite delivery, then the content provider system acquires the user's satellite communication receiver ID code from the user. The content provider system then transfers the selected content and the user's ID code to a satellite transmitter of a satellite radio provider system. The satellite transmitter transmits the selected content and ID code via a satellite to the user's satellite communication receiver.

Abstract: Methods, computer program products and systems for authenticating an electronic transaction conducted over an electronic communications link with a user device of a transaction authorizer. A method includes establishing the electronic communications link with the user device of the authorizer, receiving an authentication code from an authorizer RFID over the electronic communication link, and determining if the received authentication code matches a stored authentication code assigned to the authorizer. The electronic transaction may proceed if the stored authentication code matches the received authentication code. Also included may be the step of determining if one or more required personal attributes match stored personal attributes associated with the stored authentication code assigned to the authorizer.

Abstract: A method, program product, and system for application of an electronic prescription object to food preparation. In an exemplary embodiment, the method includes accessing a prescription object. Further, communications are established between the prescription object and an information repository by use of at least one of a communication network or a server provided by the information repository. Prescription object data is sent to the information repository. The information repository searches for information in response to the prescription object data sent to the information repository by the prescription object. Search information is related to at least one of food preparation or drug and food interactions. Search results are sent to the prescription object from the information repository.

Abstract: A computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer usable code for shredding objects. The apparatus has a number of components including a receptacle that is configured to receive objects. A shredding unit is connected to the receptacle, wherein the shredding unit selectively destroys the objects placed into the receptacle. An object detector is used to detect the presence of an object in the receptacle. An object identifier identifies objects placed into the receptacle. The apparatus also has a memory and a connector. The connector is used to establish a communications link with a data processing system. A controller in the apparatus stores identifications of objects identified by the object identifier in the memory and sends a signal to the shredding unit to control shredding of the objects.

Abstract: A computer implemented method, an apparatus, and computer program product for ordering television stations and programs are provided. Aspects of the present invention allow users to order television stations and programs based on their preferences. In addition, the aspects of the present invention allow the custom order of stations and programs to be displayed contiguously in the programming guide. Furthermore, the aspects of the present invention automatically activate a custom order based on an assignment of a particular time or schedule. Moreover, the aspects of the present invention identify a specific user from a plurality of users that share the same programming guide, such that a corresponding custom order of stations and programs may be retrieved for the specific user.

Abstract: Systems, methods and media for determining the location of a stylus for a portable electronic device are disclosed. One embodiment provides a method for determining at a first time that a stylus was not returned to a stylus receiver of the portable electronic device and determining last usage information relating to a last usage of the stylus at a second, earlier time. The method may further include storing by the portable electronic device the determined last usage information and determining stylus location information based on the last usage information. The method may further include providing an indication of the stylus location information to a user. Stylus location information may include one or more of a physical location, a geographic location, a calendar event associated with a last usage, directions to a place of last usage, an application being used at last usage of the stylus, or a user identity.

Abstract: An implementation enabling an owner of a charge card to limit purchases made with the charge card comprising an implementation enabling the owner of a charge card to limit purchases made with the charge card to purchases of either owner defined types of goods and/or owner defined geographical areas, and prohibiting purchases made with the charge card other than purchases within these limitations as defined by the card owner. The owner will be enabled to limit the purchases to particular goods or to particular sales establishments. Also, the charge card with limitations will generally be a secondary charge card issued to either a member in the family of the owner or an employee of the owner.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and media for aggregating and processing product information are disclosed. Embodiments include hardware and/or software for receiving an electronic receipt from a merchant that describes a transaction for a product by a purchaser and gathering product information from one or more sources such as the merchant, the product's manufacturer, the purchaser's bank, and/or an accessories dealer. Upon gathering the product information, the product information is associated with the transaction for the product on the electronic receipt and packaged in a standard, electronic format, an aggregated package, that is accessible and manageable by the purchaser's software, such as a personal finance manager (PFM) like Quicken™, Quickbooks™, Microsoft Money™, or the like. The aggregated package can then be sent to the purchaser via an email address supplied by the purchaser at the time of the purchaser or by the purchaser's bank while completing a funds transfer for the transaction.

Abstract: A user normally logs on to a distributed network, such as the user's Internet service, using the user's unique login name and password. The user must then be authorized to write to and read from encrypted information stored in the browser defined cache. The browser cache may be defined as either system memory or disk memory. The user might be required to enter a second password. Information requested by the user is then encrypted, either as a browser function or as an application function of the memory portion defined by the browser. Once authorized by the browser, the user can both read and write to the encrypted information in the cache. Thus, as the user browses network nodes or web pages on a network, the pages are encrypted by the browser before they are cached. Information requested by the user and stored in the cache is first decrypted by the browser and then displayed by the browser.

Abstract: A system for providing credit card sub-accounts with varying credit limits is useful to consolidate many accounts into one account. The present invention allows a user to add others to an existing account with the safety of setting credit limits for each sub-account to prevent sub-account holders from abusing the user's account features, funds, credit limits, and the like. Credit limits for sub-accounts can be configured by an exact amount, a percentage of the total credit limit, a percentage of the credit available, or a combination of these methods, and can also be per transaction, type of establishment where transaction takes place, or types of products or services attempting to be purchased.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method is provided for use of a confirmation object by a reviewing computer to determine the accuracy of statements in a received document. The reviewing computer receives a document containing a statement and a confirmation object associated with the statement. The confirmation object includes a hyperlink to a substantiation object residing on a web page on a server computer. The reviewing computer reads the statement. The reviewing computer actuates the confirmation object, thereby transmitting a request to the server computer that the web page containing the substantiation object be served to the reviewing computer. The reviewing computer receives the web page containing the substantiation object from the server computer, reads the substantiation object, and compares the statement with the substantiation object in order to ascertain their degree of agreement. A substantiation authority system including a server computer is also provided for substantiating statements in a document.
