  • Patent number: 4686711
Abstract: An eye protection device for the window of a welding hood or shield includes a first stationary screen portion and a second screen portion which is reciprocable toward and away from a position in the window. A drive for the movable screen portion is connected to a control device which has a manually operable switch to initiate movement of the screen toward the window before the commencement of a welding operation. Additionally, an electro-optical sensor is connected to the control device to provide emergency actuation of the drive if the manual switching element is not used. Preferably, the control also includes a timing element connected to the electrooptical sensor which moves the second screen portion away from the window if the welding light is not detected after a certain period of time.

  • Patent number: 4597450
Abstract: The fire-proof cover has a high melting point, is flame-proof and at least almost gas tight. It is preferably made of glass thread fabric and may also be provided with an aluminum sheet. It is possible to make fire-proof a fabric by impregnation and it can be metallized under vacuum. The fire-proof cover is preferably provided with handling bands on its upper edge and it is folded so as to form a packet which is arranged in a package to be used as a fire protection assembly. The handling bands are projecting from one side of the package. The ends of the handling bands are detachably connected at the outer surface of the package. The package is provided with weakening lines. By pulling the handling bands, the package may be opened and the fire-proof cover may be unfolded so as to be ready for use.

  • Patent number: 4262908
Abstract: A target apparatus for simulating firing with a weapon which emits firing or shooting pulses. A first device serves for detecting target rings which have been hit and a second device serves for detecting target sectors which have been hit. These detection devices are mutually interconnected by an evaluation device and with a hit-indicator device. The first detection device scans the target for firing pulses by means of a revolving receiver. The revolving receiver comprises receiving elements, arranged along a radial way of the target, for the target rings. The second detection device detects the position of the revolving receiver, i.e., the sector when hit by a firing pulse.

  • Patent number: 4195422
Abstract: A system for simulating weapon firing comprising a pulse transmitter connected with a weapon for transmitting beam pulses and a target device having a hit display. The pulse transmitter comprises a calibrated adjustment device for the beam pulses in order to adjust the hit diameter at the target image plane of the target device to the caliber of the weapon.

  • Patent number: 4155122
Abstract: A welder's helmet has a window with an upper section of invariable light-attenuation characteristics and a dimmable lower section comprising an ultraviolet filter, an infrared filter, and an electro-optical shutter such as a liquid crystal sandwiched between a polarizer and an analyzer. A control circuit including a UV-sensitive photocell, upon sensing a welding arc or flame, operates the shutter to reduce the amount of light transmitted through the lower section of the window.

  • Patent number: 4071912
Abstract: A welder's mask has a lens at least part of which is formed of an infrared filter, an ultaviolet filter, a polarizer, an analyzer, and an optoelectric element between the polarizer and analyzer. The optoelectric element may be a ceramic crystal or fluid crystal that is electrically energizable by means of automatic circuitry connected to an UV-sensitive photocell to rotate the polarization plane of light coming from the polarizer to the analyzer in order automatically to darken the lens when exposed to a welding flame or arc.

  • Patent number: 3943573
Abstract: Automatically operable protective means, e.g. a helmet, for use by welders, has an eye shading means which is brought automatically into shading condition upon reception of light rays or ultrasonic vibrations by a transducer and electromagnetic operator. Provision is made for supplying cooling air to the electronic and electromagnetic devices and to the eye shade, and the shade may incorporate movable polarizing plates for adjustment of transparency.
