  • Patent number: 4224845
Abstract: The disclosed apparatus features a plurality of identical guide tubes which are mutually parallel and mounted on a loading drum which rotates with a spindle drum of the lathe into a loading position for the guide tubes. Each tube consists of a feed channel and a cover which is hinged so that it can cover the open longitudinal section of the feed channel. The outer surface of the cover has a number of gear segments molded into it at longitudinally spaced locations, and these mesh with a corresponding number of pinion gears on an actuating shaft fixed to the loading drum. A spring biases the shaft axially to force locking extensions on the pinion gears into receiving recesses in the bearing supports for the shaft for locking the cover in the closed position. The loading position for a tube aligns it with the cylindrical coupling member of a drive mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4194420
Abstract: The apparatus has a loading drum 3 with rod guide tubes 31, a rod magazine 4, and a rod separator apparatus 5. In order to permit the rod stock of the openable guide tubes 31 to be fed in more than one spindle position, there are provided arms 9 and bails 11 for the rod magazine 4, the separator 5, and the motor 6 of a rod feeding apparatus. The arms 9 and bails 11 are pivotable about a common longitudinal traverse 10 and can be locked in various chosen positions A, B by means of a rod 13 passing through all the arms 9, the bails 11 and through in each case one of a plurality of bores 12', 12", 12"'.

  • Patent number: 4008634
Abstract: A multispindle automatic lathe in which a plurality of axially movable spindle sleeves, each carrying a rotatable spindle axially immovably with respect to each sleeve, are mounted in opposite end portions of a drum, which, in turn, is mounted in transversely spaced upright supports for indexing movement about its axis, and in which an advancing mechanism is provided for each of the spindle sleeves.

  • Patent number: 3978565
Abstract: A multiple-spindle machine wherein two upright or horizontal frame members support two spaced-apart coaxial carriers for sets of work spindles. Each spindle of one carrier is aligned with a spindle of the other carrier, and the carriers are indexible in synchronism with each other by a mechanism which also serves to move carriages for turning, grinding, milling and/or other types of tools. The carriages are mounted on several elongated guide members which extend between and are connected to the frame members. Each work spindle can be provided with a chuck or collet, or the spindles in one of the carriers may have chucks or collets whereas the spindles of the other carrier support or constitute centers for elongated workpieces. If the workpieces are short, the machine may include a mechanism which transfers workpieces from the chucks of spindles in one of the carriers into the chucks of spindles in the other carrier whereby the workpieces are inverted end-for-end during transport between the two carriers.

  • Patent number: 3955687
Abstract: Apparatus for feeding elongated bars into the work spindles of an automatic multiple-spindle bar machine has a turret which is mounted behind and is indexible with the carrier for work spindles, elongated tubular guides mounted in the turret and each registering with a work spindle, pushers reciprocably mounted in the guides and having projections extending laterally outwardly through longitudinally extending slots of the corresponding guides, and discrete drives for the pushers. Each drive is a chain drive mounted on the turret and having a chain a stretch of which extends in parallelism with the corresponding guide and is connected with the projection of the respective pusher. The rear sprocket wheels for the chains can be driven by discrete bevel gears through the medium of friction clutches, and these bevel gears are in mesh with a further bevel gear which is coaxial with the turret and is driven by a reversible motor by way of a worm drive and an endless belt or chain.

  • Patent number: 3955258
Abstract: A multiple-purpose machine tool wherein two spaced-apart upright frame members support three horizontal guide members which are disposed one above the other. The uppermost and lowermost guide members support two disks which are adjustable lengthwise thereof and flank an indexible drum for a group of equally spaced work clamping devices. The disks support the drum for indexing movement about a horizontal axis but prevent the drum from moving axially. Each guide member supports, at each side of the drum, several carriages each having a main slide which is movable lengthwise and a cross slide which is movable transversely of the respective guide member. At least some cross slides carry discrete motors which can rotate the respective tools and at least some clamping devices can be rotated by a drive which derives motion from the main prime mover of the machine tool.
