  • Publication number: 20030172885
Abstract: A pressure reservoir is used to exert pressure on a hydraulic system. With the hydraulic system, a gas exchange valve, for instance, of an internal combustion engine can be actuated. The pressure reservoir (62) includes a housing (64, 68) and a piston (72) that is prestressed in operation by a device (88, 90). To enable making the pressure reservoir (62) as small as possible, it is proposed that the device (88, 90) which prestresses the piston (72) of the pressure reservoir (62) has a characteristic force-travel curve, in one range of motion of the piston (72), that has a slope which differs from the slope in a different range of motion of the piston (72).

  • Publication number: 20030154964
Abstract: The method for cylinder-charge control consists in implementing an internal recirculation of residual gas in the cylinder, through controlling the closing times (AS) of at least one exhaust valve of the respective cylinder and by opening (EÖ1) at least one intake valve in the vicinity of top dead center (OT) of the piston, along with intermittent discharge of residual gas in front of the at least one intake valve, and that within one charge-exchange process in the cylinder, in at least two phases (EÖ1, ES1, EÖ2, ES2) that are offset in time from one another, at least one intake valve is opened. This method optimizes the engine operation in the warm-up phase from the standpoint of consumption, pollutant emission and running smoothness.

  • Patent number: 6497215
Abstract: Described is an apparatus for rapid pressure buildup in a motor vehicle reservoir-type injection system (common rail) supplied with fuel by a high-pressure pump, the apparatus including a piston, which defines a pressure chamber that can be enlarged counter to the force of a spring element prestressed counter to the piston, which pressure chamber communicates with the feed pump and with the device supplied with the pressure medium. A locking device acting on the piston is provided, by which the piston can be locked in a locking position, assumed as a result of the pressure, built up in the pressure chamber by the feed pump, counter to the prestressing of the spring element and can be untensed after unlocking into a position that reduces the size of the pressure chamber. By the relaxation of the spring, the system pressure is built up suddenly.

  • Publication number: 20020189581
Abstract: A method and a device for operating an internal combustion engine including a plurality of cylinders, determine whether a torque of the internal combustion engine is above a torque threshold value. If the torque is less than the torque threshold value, all the cylinders of the engine are operated in a lean operating state. If the torque is greater than or equal to the torque threshold value, a first number of cylinders of the engine is operated in a homogeneous operating state, and the remaining cylinders of the engine are operated in the lean operating state.

  • Publication number: 20020166539
Abstract: A method and a device for controlling a gas fill of a plurality of cylinders in an internal combustion engine having variable valve timing, in which a detection signal of a filling sensor is sampled with a sampling rate. Furthermore, a detection interval is determined for one cylinder. The sampling values for ascertaining a sampling-value sum are added up within this detection interval. In addition, a number of sampling values within the first detection interval are counted for ascertaining a first count value. The air mass filled into the first cylinder is then ascertained by forming a quotient from the sampling-value sum and the count value.

  • Patent number: 6433539
Abstract: The angular position detection device for the angular position of a rotatable part includes a transducer wheel rigidly connected with the rotatable part, an increment transducer and an absolute angle transducer arranged for simultaneous detection of the angular position of the transducer wheel and a control device including a computing unit and a monitoring module. Signals from both transducers that are characteristic of the rotational position of the transducer wheel are simultaneously fed to both the computing unit and the monitoring module. A redundant method of reliably ascertaining the rotational position of the rotatable part without periodic resynchronization of the increment transducer is also described.

  • Patent number: 6192331
Abstract: A method for simulating control functions of a control device, in which a control program code for execution of control functions is stored in a first memory area of a memory belonging to the control device, the control program code including one or more control program code modules for the control functions, and containing at least one switching device for switching over from a control program code module SPCM to a simulation program code module. At least one simulation program code module for one or more test control functions is made available in a second memory area of the memory. The switching devices switch over from the control program code module to a pertinent simulation program code module stored in the second memory area. The control program code is then processed, the simulation program code module being executed, via the switched-over switching device, instead of the control program code module.
