Abstract: A call jump establishes a jump from a call of a traditional telephone carrier established with audio signals. When it is determined that video should be added to the call, a packetized network is connected. The audio and video are transmitted over the packetized network. There is provided standard telephone equipment. A video enabled device is capable of rerouting the audio selectively to either the traditional telephone carrier or the packetized network. A packetizer packetizes the audio signals from the standard telephone equipment and the video.

Abstract: A method for device-independent access to multimedia contents is specified in which a marker information item is provided by a first terminal. The marker information contains at least one marker in a multimedia content. The marker information is stored and a request for access to the multimedia content is provided. A transmission information item is ascertained on the basis of the request for the purpose of transmitting the multimedia content starting from the at least one marker to a second terminal.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for charging for a communication link established from a first communication terminal (A) to a target communication terminal (B) via a packet-switched communication by transmitting message packets, the target communication terminal (B) featuring forwarding to at least one additional communication device (C). The inventive method comprises the following steps: —the first communication terminal (A) sends a signaling message (1) to the target communication terminal (B) via a monitoring network unit (5) of the communication network (4); —the target communication terminal (B) sends a reply signaling message (2), in which forwarding is indicated, into the communication network (4) after receiving the signaling message (1); —a fee calculation system that is installed at least in part in the monitoring network unit (5) uses the reply signaling message (2) for allocating charges, the forwarding charges being allocated to the first communication device (A) or the target communication device (B).

Abstract: In one aspect, a method for authenticating a communications unit is provided. A secret code word is programmed in a permanent memory in order to reliably verify the communications unit, and during a logging-in process of the communications unit to a service provider in a communications network, the secret code word is used for generating a message that is sent to the service provider. This message is used for verifying whether the communications unit authenticated therewith is authorized to obtain a service. A communications unit, which is connected to a communications network via an access point, is clearly identified. As a result, it is ensured that services of a communications network are obtained only with corresponding appropriate communications units that are authorized by the communications network operator.

Abstract: The invention provides the possibility of issuing and settling a bill in a paperless manner in connection with any commercial order (mail-order commerce, other markets) provided that the customer has e-mail access and uses home banking. According to the invention, the bill is issued in the form of an e-mail. Once the customer has established his home banking connection (with the security mechanisms provided to that effect) using a software that is either installed in the PC or is additionally supplied with the e-mail and if the customer so wishes, the bill is then forwarded to his or her bank in order to transfer the billed amount to the issuer of said bill.

Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for the sealable storage of objects, which has a device for checking an opening authorization, is additionally set up to allow opening only following positive authentication of a user, and which has an associated account facility which can be credited with at least one credit sum corresponding to the value of the stored objects. A method is also disclosed for purchasing objects using such an apparatus for storing objects.
